Water Corporation launches new ‘Water Colours the West’ campaign via The Brand Agency
Water Corporation has unveiled its new education campaign, ‘Water Colours the West’, developed in collaboration with The Brand Agency, Perth. This initiative addresses the critical need for Western Australians to understand and appreciate the value of water and the vital role it plays in enabling our state’s future.
While major infrastructure projects and climate-resilient water sources remain essential, the campaign emphasises that long-term water security depends on all of us. As Western Australia continues to grow, and climate change permanently reduces traditional rainfall, careful planning and investment alone cannot remove supply limits – requiring a shared commitment across households, industry, and government.
Serving as the foundational platform for Water Corporation’s multi-tiered communications strategy, ‘Water Colours the West’ establishes the rationale for future water decisions by articulating the value of water to the economy, liveability, environment, detailing current system pressures, and showcasing Water Corporation’s network upgrades before seamlessly connecting into social license and tactical behaviour change initiatives.
The creative approach utilises a visual device termed “Watercolour Storytelling” to deliver complex messaging in a clear, calm, and engaging way. Monochrome, black-and-white scenes of everyday West Australian life – from native residential gardens and construction sites to regional canola fields – bloom into vivid colour as pipes connect and water flows, visually demonstrating that water brings life, vibrancy, and prosperity to the state.
Says Stephen Hansen, Associate Creative Director, The Brand Agency: “This is an important message, beautifully delivered. The watercolour device manages to honour the importance of the message as well as celebrate the natural beauty of our state. The team have executed it wonderfully.”
Says Lisa Westcott, Team Lead, Brand & Campaigns, Water Corporation: “Water is behind almost every aspect of life in Western Australia, yet its value can often go unseen. ‘Water Colours the West’ brings that story to life, helping build understanding of both the opportunities water creates and the challenges we face in securing it for future generation”
Says Sophie Fielding, Senior Account Director, The Brand Agency: “This campaign sits above tactical behaviour change; it’s about establishing the ‘why’. By demonstrating the value of water alongside the realities of supply constraints, we are creating a golden thread and brand foundation that will support community understanding and future water action for years to come.”
The campaign launched across TV, OLV and OOH from September 28th.
