Vale Andrew Scott: the super suit who preferred to build ad agencies from the ground up
The ad industry on both sides of the Tasman will be saddened to hear of the passing of popular ad executive Andrew Scott, the former chief executive officer of Whybin\TBWA New Zealand and Whybin\TBWA Melbourne, who passed away suddenly on Friday at his home in Auckland.
Although health issues had caused Scott to retire early he refused to let them get him down. He stayed as active as possible, socialising with many friends and colleagues from within and without the industry.
Said Scott at the time of his departure in 2016 from Whybin\TBWA NZ: “I’ve had a great run in the network game, working with some of the best people in the industry and fantastic clients along the way.”
Said Paul Bradbury, CEO TBWA Australia and New Zealand at the time: “Scotty has earned huge respect from everyone at TBWA across Australia and New Zealand and we are really excited for him. He was instrumental in the growth and success of our Melbourne office and has helped us get the Auckland office back on track.”
Prior to Whybin\TBWA, Scott was General manager of Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand from 2004 to 2007, during which time Saatchi’s was the most awarded agency in the region, winning Campaign Brief NZ Agency of the Year twice (2005 and 2006).
Before that Scott was managing director of Draft FCB Melbourne (1999 to 2004) after a few years in London as a board account director at Publicis UK.
Scott was educated at Wellington Boys College and Victoria University of Wellington.
Scott’s funeral will be held at 2pm NZT on Saturday 21 September at All Saints Chapel at Purewa, Auckland. Followed by drinks and a celebration of his life at The Long Room. Just as he would have wanted it.
In lieu of any flowers, Scott’s family have asked that for those that wish to, can make a donation in his name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association – https://mda.org.nz/our-research/support-our-research/

A great ad man.
An even better man.
My sincere condolences to Scotty’s family and many friends.
.
The impact Scotty had on our careers is massive. He gave two young whipper snappers from the country his time, his advice and he gave us our first job in the industry… and then he gave us amazing opportunities and experiences. You’ll be missed, Scotty. Thanks again, mate. xCuz & Jim
Great man, sorry to hear this, RIP mate.
One of the good guys. Vale Scotty, RIP.
Such good memories working at FCB with Scotty. A highly skilled agency leader, but also a great guy with a ripping, dry sense of humour. Scotty was someone you wanted to be around and learn from. Vale Scotty. RIP mate. x
sad to see this news, Scotty was def one of the good ad guys and always had my back. Will be missed for sure.
Such a ripping bloke and a masterful agency operator. If you spent enough time with him you realised that his wise arse humour was just a coat of varnish on top of his very wise words. Big love to his family and friends.

Always a pleasure to be around. I regret missing the opportunity to partner with Andrew in Auckland. Would have been awesome fun.
I avoid social media. But I make an exception for Scotty. A massive thank you to him and much love to Hanna, Tom and Beth xx
I had such fond memories working with Scotty. He always brought people together and made it fun. Sending love to his friends and family.
Incredible man, so much passion, care and love for people. Incredibly sad.
Sending love to all his family and friends.
Scott and I were introduced to Andrew at FCB through Ted H, and he gave us our first role as Creative Directors. He would live by what he would often quote; “take the work seriously, but not yourself”. He was a good bloke, good fun and he backed us.
Later, when I was at TBWA HK the phone rang and I was able to give him a reference for Whybin/TBWA Melbourne, the smallest of favours returned. Mark
