Thinkerbell scores Webby win for Mattel Brickshop
Australian independent creative company Thinkerbell has taken out the Webby Award for Best Direct Response at the 30th Annual Webby Awards, with its Mattel Brickshop ‘Little Listings’ campaign.
Further, Thinkerbell also had three other projects that were recognised, picking up a nomination for best use of AI and Machine Learning for Menulog / Just Eat, a nomination for Best Original Music or Music Supervision for its ‘Australia’s Most Dangerous Predator’ work with TAC, and a Honouree mention for its ‘Fire Frequency’ work with Commercial Radio Australia.

The Webby Awards are, according to The New York Times, “The Internet’s highest honour”, and are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), the leading international awards organisation honouring excellence on the Internet. Judging the final campaign was a jury that included creator and influencer Paris Hilton, actor Walton Goggins, and Manuel “Manolo” Arroyo, Global CMO at Coca-Cola.
There were only two winners from Australia, and with four pieces of work recognised Thinkerbell was the region’s strongest performing agency.
Says Tom Wenborn, Chief Creative Tinker of Thinkerbell South: “Our agency is future-fit, and doing the type of work the internet loves, and builds its own momentum. We’re incredibly proud to have a couple more of those funny springy trophies adorn our bar. The Mattel Brickshop ‘Little Listings’ work with Carsales brings together the worlds of e-comm, direct marketing and hardcore creativity to create something really small, but also kind of massive.
“We are also exceptionally proud of the TAC work – and our approach to sound design, which was aided by the deft touch of Eardrum.”
Says Paul Swann, Chief Creative Tinker of Thinkerbell North: “Our work with Commercial Radio Australia broke new ground in how an industry body speaks to its constituents. The way this idea has been brought to life with The Glue Society breaks boundaries and defies logic. It’s great to see it recognised on the world stage.”
Adds Swann: “We are equally proud of our avant-garde approach to communications for Menulog, and using AI to turn attention onto all the local restaurants of Australia”.
Thinkerbell continues to push boundaries with its brand led, future fit business, and appreciates this recognition from the Webby’s.
