The Victorian Human Rights Commision tackles racism on Melbourne public transport in extended ‘Anti-Hate’ campaign via Fenton Stephens
In response to a spree of verbal racial attacks across Melbourne’s public transport, the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC) and Fenton Stephens have extended their ‘Anti-Hate’ campaign into trains and trams.
The campaign explains the importance of supporting passengers after they’ve been racially attacked (Apply Anti-Hate), because the alternative of remaining silent can inflict more damage than the actual abuse.
Says Karen Toohey, VEOHRC acting commissioner: “Anti-Hate provides people with the
information and tactics they need to respond safely to racism. We are calling on the community to report hate, and through this campaign we want to get the message out there that there are services and strategies in place to help.”
The ads have been appearing inside trains, trams and mX for past several weeks and direct
Melburnians toward the dedicated website where an arsenal of Anti-Hate tips and tools can be found.
The work is part of an evolving Fenton Stephens campaign targeting schools, workplaces and the general community.

and I hate this campaign.
A wasted opportunity most agencies would kill for.
It won’t change a thing. Worst of all, it won’t win an award.
I hate hate.
