TABOO launches ‘Space of Waste’, a circular and regenerative community impact lab in Cremorne, Melbourne

Indie agency TABOO – part of the B-Corp community – has announced the launch of ‘Space of Waste’, a ground-breaking community impact lab situated in Melbourne’s innovation precinct, Cremorne.

Inspired by its long-standing commitment to ‘defy norms and leverage creativity for environmental and social impact’, TABOO has partnered with Alleyoop founder, Tim McNamara to bring the space to life. The relationship stems from a shared vision to revolutionise sustainability practices and foster an environment where change-makers, brands, and community come together.

Says McNamara: “Space of Waste is designed as a collaborative hub linking creativity, community, and climate action. It is a place where passionate changemakers can converge, share ideas, and co-create initiatives that tackle climate change head-on. From community members to activists, artists, grassroots organisations and some of Australia’s largest businesses, the lab is open to all who are committed to making a difference. We couldn’t have made this possible without the commitments by TABOO.”

The lab showcases the power of upcycling, transforming discarded materials from noteworthy sources, including the NGV Alexander Macqueen exhibition, into functional elements that inspire and educate.

Says Andrew Mackinnon, founder of TABOO: “From the vibrancy of the streets to the heart of Cremorne’s innovation hub, TABOO has always believed in turning imagination into impactful reality. The inception of Space of Waste is more than a project; it’s a testament to our journey of challenging the status quo and amplifying sustainable evolution. By curating this space, we’re not just telling a story — we’re inviting the world to co-author a greener, more inspired future with us.”

TABOO further enhanced the Space of Waste experience by weaving in storytelling, branding, and a touch of our signature creativity. Each installation, event, and activity is curated to not only educate but to invigorate – pushing visitors to rethink, reimagine, and reinvent. From the heart of “Silicon Yarra,” where over 700 businesses pulsate with ideas, innovations, and interactions, McNamara envisions Space of Waste as a launchpad. A starting point to a larger journey of making every suburb, every business and every individual more conscious, more sustainable and more engaged in creating a tangible positive impact.

Adds Mackinnon: “We are not just creating a space. We are crafting a platform to shape new thinking and bold action. A challenge to brands, individuals, and other agencies alike – to join us, collaborate, and amplify the mission of sustainability. We are in the business of stories, and this is one story the world needs to hear.”

The doors of Space of Waste open every Thursday to Saturday, inviting the media, brands and curious individuals to experience, learn, and collaborate.
