Super Studio launches portrait campaign ahead of South Australia’s History Festival 2024

A historic project is helping power South Australia’s History Festival in 2024, conceived by Adelaide-based creative marketing agency Super Studio to promote the festival and its events. Returning from May 1-31, this year’s festival centres around the theme of Power.

Working alongside acclaimed photographer Jonathan van der Knaap and the History Trust of South Australia, Super Studio have taken 100 portraits of 100 South Australians. The result is a gallery of extraordinary images that serve as a powerful, living time-capsule of South Australia today.

Capturing the power of people through striking black and white portraiture, the full gallery of 100 portraits can be found on the History Festival website alongside the digital program (plus a selection appearing in the printed program) accompanied by 100 unique perspectives on Power.

In a fitting partnership with SA Power Networks, the portraits will also be displayed on Stobie poles across the state to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Stobie pole, in an outdoor exhibition spanning ten different state councils.

Notable portrait subjects include Hannah Kent (author), Tanya Hosch (AFL executive and Indigenous social activist), Tilda Cobham Hervey (actor), Dr Richard ‘Harry’ Harris OAM (Lieutenant-Governor of SA and Thai cave rescue hero), Annabel Crabb (journalist and broadcaster), and Chad Cornes (former Port Adelaide AFL player).

Says Greg Mackie OAM, CEO, History of Trust: “I can think of no better way to showcase the theme of power than by having 100 people telling 100 stories in this way.

“These incredible portraits, coupled with their subjects’ fascinating perspectives offer insights into what South Australians are thinking about power in 2024. What will people think of power in another 20 years’ time?”
