Strongbow set to launch new ‘Hand-picked by hand’ campaign via Clemenger BBDO, Melbourne
This Australia Day, Strongbow will launch its new TVC and outdoor campaign ‘Hand-picked by hand’ – the first campaign for the brand since 2010 via CUB’s creative agency Clemenger BBDO, Melbourne.
The ads will hero the ‘Strongbow Orchard’ and the fictional characters hand-picking the Strongbow apples.
Says Ant Keogh, Clemenger BBDO Melbourne ECD: “The Strongbow Orchard is a world where down-to-earth characters obsess over their craft; hand-picking apples.”
The campaign consists of two spots, ‘Short and Tall’ and ‘Peter Piper’ launching in 30 second versions on free to air and subscription TV. Large format and small format ads will also feature nationally with Strongbow’s new campaign line ‘hand-picked by hand’.
The new ads follow Strongbow’s recent packaging refresh in December last year which was crafted to bring to life Strongbow’s essence of relaxed simplicity. The campaign also coincides with several firsts for Strongbow, including the launch of its new 500ml bottles and 10-can fridge share packs.

Oh, come on, these are self-conscious, wafer thin premises for weak scripts embarrassingly performed. Clems sycophants, you can’t be serious. The Peter Piper script might have worked if they were picking a peck of pickled peppers, but they’te picking apples fer christsake.

I guess it’s an “in” or an “insight” but as a platform for entertaining ads it hasn’t delivered.
Ad agency wank. Handpicking apples is not a craft, and certainly not one that anybody would obsess over. Just an excuse to come up with yet another so-called ironic campaign for their hipster buddies. It’s so mindblowingly dull and pretenious
Do they mean to tell me there are orchards out there being picked by robots? Or perhaps by people without hands?
Come on guys, these are nicely done. At least save your venom for ads that are actually bad.
I get that they need to set this in an orchard to try and convince people to believe that Strongbow cider is made by juicing fresh apples (when in fact it’s made with globally sourced, dehydrated concentrate), but couldn’t they at least have found an idea that was either a) funny or b) relevant? Clems have well and truly crested the hill.

I was driving along and saw a big illuminated sign saying “Hand picked by Hand’ I could not believe how any would spend so much money on an illuminated sign with this statement. Dumb and Dumber!
What are the actors names please?
Hand picked by hand is utterly annoying and stupid. Will we soon have paintings which are painted by hand, or perhaps even handshakes by hand?
