Southern Highlands Matters Inc and Superlunar launch ‘Little Plastics’, a powerful new animated film to support the Reject Repoly campaign
CB Exclusive: Southern Highlands Matters Inc has launched ‘Little Plastics’, a haunting and beautifully crafted animated short that anchors the community’s opposition to the proposed Repoly (formerly Plasrefine) plastics reprocessing facility in the NSW Southern Highlands.
One of the largest proposed in Australia, Repoly poses a threat to homes, schools, and Sydney’s drinking water catchment. Although the NSW Independent Planning Commission rejected the project, they are appealing in the Land & Environment Court, and urgent funds are needed to secure senior legal counsel and expert witnesses.
Crafted completely in the NSW Southern Highlands, ‘Little Plastics’ was written, composed, directed and animated by local collaborators and the award-winning team at superlunar.xyz
Post-production work was expertly handled by Eden Studios in Sydney, ensuring a polished and impactful final product.
Based on a quote from Repoly, that residents would manage by ‘minimising time spent outdoors’, the film reimagines what the idyllic highlands outdoor lifestyle would look like under the shadow of a large plastics reprocessing facility.
“Like anyone, we support recycling. But building a potentially toxic plastics plant in an area that feeds Sydney’s water supply, upstream from a federal platypus conservation project, in a working foodbowl, near schools, daycare centres, oh – and right next door to a cancer research facility? That didn’t sit very well with us,” said Ben Pearce, Creative Director at Superlunar.
“Community donations are crucial at this stage of the campaign, as we seek to secure the best possible legal representation to protect our lifestyle,” said Sam Wood, Chair, Southern Highlands Matters Inc.

Great to see creative and marketing team working together at virtually no cost to overthrow a massive plastics refinery factory trying to open in the Southern Highlands.
What an amazing and powerful animated film highlighting the dangers of this potentially toxic proposal, which must be stopped.
Love the craft and clarity behind this idea. It’s a simple yet striking concept that’s been brought to life with such precision and heart. The balance between creativity and purpose is spot-on, a brilliant example of how good ideas can drive real-world impact.
Clarity and craft in perfect harmony. Congrats to everyone involved in the making of this short.
