Snack Drawer’s Rainbow History Class to go live at Sydney WorldPride 2023

Internet-first creative agency Snack Drawer is giving brands the opportunity to connect authentically with the LGBTIQA+ community when TikTok sensation the Rainbow History Class goes live in person as part of Sydney WorldPride’s WorldPride Arts program in March 2023.

Rainbow History Class is an original creator show from Snack Drawer. The channels are an entertaining and fun space for LGBTIQA+ people and their allies to learn and discuss the lesser known history of the community. The social media sensation won best Creator at this year’s AIMCO Australian Influencer Marketing Awards and has collaborated with brands including AAP, TikTok, Dr. Martens, Google Arts and Culture, Menulog, and Oxfam.

Now, Snack Drawer is seeking expressions of interest from sponsors to collaborate on its in person iteration, Rainbow History Class Live Classroom. The initiative will bring the queer community’s history to life over three nights of celebratory storytelling, interactive lessons, and lots of fun in Sydney’s Darlinghurst Theatre from 2-4 March 2023.

Rainbow History Class co-creators, Snack Drawer chief creative officer Hannah McElhinney (above left) and show host and British LGBT Awards Online Influencer of the Year finalist Rudy Jean Rigg (left), will swap the internet for an IRL Classroom where homework is optional, detention is never, and glitter is always on the agenda.

Says McElhinney: “We are so excited to connect with our community in person at the Rainbow History Class live classroom. Queer and trans history is so often erased, so it’s so important to create a space to learn and celebrate our shared story.”

Says Dan Clarke, Sydney WorldPride’s festival creative director – WorldPride Arts: “It is a huge privilege to be showcasing such diversity, creativity, and artistic talent as part of Sydney WorldPride, with performers and artists hailing from across Australia and around the world.

“From the beginning, it was important for us to represent a multiplicity of voices, experiences, cultural backgrounds, and ages. We have been overwhelmed by the interest and support we have received from Sydney’s arts and cultural institutions.

“From powerful theatre and rousing music to playful exhibitions and fabulous drag, the WorldPride Arts program gives locals and visitors alike the opportunity the experience the wonderful creativity of the LGBTQIA+ community.”

The Rainbow History Class Live Classroom is being produced independently by Snack Drawer in association with Sydney WorldPride and assistance from the Australian Government through arts funding and advisory body, the Australia Council.
