Shaquille O’Neal links up with The Inspired Unemployed for PointsBet’s latest campaign
Former NBA superstar and PointsBet Australia brand ambassador Shaquille O’Neal will be the face of the brand’s new campaign – “PointsBet – Built Different”, with the campaign launching across TV, print social media, mobile, out-of-home, and digital platforms late last month.
O’Neal is joined alongside Australian viral content creators Matt Ford, Jack Steele, and Dom Littrich from The Inspired Unemployed in the campaign, with three of the five new TVCs now in market.
The new campaign centres around how Australians are built different from the rest of the world, which is quintessentially demonstrated by the boys from The Inspired Unemployed and four-time NBA superstar O’Neal.
Says Andrew Fahey, chief marketing officer and co-founder, PointsBet: “Shaq is iconic in the world of sport and entertainment and represents the PointsBet brand to a tee in Australia. The upcoming AFL and NRL finals, Spring Racing Carnival, US sports are going to be massive in Australia in the next couple of months and we can’t wait to see our new campaign roll out across the country.
“We are also excited to be able to work and align with the boys from The Inspired Unemployed. They are built different in the way they engage with their audience which in essence personifies the Built Different Campaign. Being able to push our cutting-edge platform to their highly engaged audience is something we are really excited about.”

In early, looking forward to some hot takes on these ones…
Really bad. Please make them stop. Please.
If you’re desperate for money sure take the job but don’t PR it. Nothing to be proud of.
Awesome…
Not everyone should.
Unbelievable TIU signed up to this, absolute cringe. Like the lads @shepmates doing rubbish ads for Telstra atm. Tiktok > commercial world is a tricky path to navigate. Wouldn’t be PR’ing this, I would be taking it off air.
TIU really need a find a job soon
These are fun. Saw them on TV the other night and gave a chuckle at ‘Shaqadile Dundee’.
I presume this is supposed to be amusing.
I think they are pretty memorable. Shaq is a gun and the guys do their thing organically. 8/10
Nope.
Gambling gives people some fun but destroys many lives and families. Selling your soul to do an ad makes me lose respect for Shaq and T.I.U.
This feels like a Thinkerbell idea.
What were Inspired boys thinking signing up to a gambling ad? Not their best moment.
Came here to say this. Terrible.
I like these a lot, but i can get why some may think they are OTT
I can forgive the ad. But weighing in on our voice to parliament, just because he’s native Ameri– oh wait, he’s not, but he shares a similar skin tone to our Indigenous brothers… that was crass.
Live with the fact you’re on the wrong side of history.
People can be a voice for indigenous & BIPOC rights regardless of their skin colour.
Such pomposity and arrogance,
coupled with the typical aggression of a zealot.
‘On the wrong side of history’ was the sealer.
Are you defending someone who said Shaq can’t be a voice for indigenous rights because he’s black?
Racist. Ignorant. Unconstructive.
Spend your energy doing something positive.
Very quick to attach the racist tag to somebody you don’t know.Though not unusual these days, unfortunately.
Feel like Shaq’s myth is completely denied here. He became basketball royalty with zero training, he’s a DJ, a philosopher, an entrepreneur. Why is he the dumb guy in these? Strategic miss.
Sounds like a Toyota Hilux tagline. And if built different makes the app easier to understand and use, why can’t he understand Aussies and our national game… which is also ‘built different’?
Just not that funny, feels very forced.
goddamn shaq gets a pass but these millenial tiktok icons need to please f*king stop
Fully agree
These ads make Aussies look like idiots. We are different to arrogant yanks like Shaq, but do you have to show us as dickheads.
Utter idiots, embarrassing
Cringeworthy rating is 11/10
I’m Australian
I’m a “punter”
I change the channel as soon as it starts
these ads are showing typical Aussie as dumb, illiterate, very degrading. Take it off, Shaq you can go home
The Inspired Unemployed are painfully unfunny and so unoriginal. I just don’t understand the appeal.
It appeals to the simpletons and people who like to follow.
These ads are an insult to our intelligence. They are far too frequent in prime time. We dont speak as portrayed and gives Australians a bad rap. Please take them off our screens.
Please make them stop now
It’s embarrassing
Still waiting for them to do something remotely amusing
The ads are dumb. Don’t understand even what they are saying.
Not my kind of humour.
This advertisement is so unaustralian I honestly can’t even understand them. Is it even being filmed in OZ I have never heard any Aussie talking like it.
SHAQ must be desperate to make some money this is degrading to him and to the rest of us, our mute button has never had such a work out.
Go back to the drawing board, this is just not funny.
These ads are beyond punishing , immediately change channel when they come on
I need a shower after watching these. What year am I in?
These ads are so very annoying that I’m close to changing news channels in order to avoid them.
Simply dreadful.
Disappointing to see these gambling ads – my kids keep running into these ads while watching the womens basketball championship on YouTube – they are 8 and 11. Shame these boys are advertising something so hideous. I hope they choose their products and advertising wisely next time.
I hate these Points Bet commercials. Make Aussies look like idiots.
The ad where they they whistle and make no sense noises is the most offensive ad. No one in Aust talks like that, this needs to stop
Please remove these idiotic, absolutely insulting ads from our TV screens.
Couldn’t agree more. You had Shaq and you did this?
These ads were truly horrific. More horrifying is the fact the people gave them the green light to be aired. F embarrassing
The entire Shaq/Aussie thing is a total mess! I love u Shaq but u r destroying your Au brand, if u care…
No amount of money paid is worth selling your soul for a gambling ad. Shaq & T.I.U sold any credibility they had to the highest bidder.
Just watched one of his latest Pointsbet ads…nice to see they are promoting sexual misconduct in the workplace (tapping his fellow workmates bums and telling them to get to work).
VERY UNAUSTRALIAN!
No one in Australia speaks like this.
This is not funny OR creative, it is just OFFENSIVE and VERY ANNOYING.
It’s bad enough to be advertising gambling in prime time but to belittle Australians in this manner is shameful.
Take them off the air and rethink what you are doing because you are turning people off in droves!
These gronks need to get off Tik Tok and get a job. Oh hold on, they’re about to sell their beer company for a fortune.
No idea in these ads. Looking at the credits I can see Points Bet have gone straight to some YouTube ‘talent’ and it shows. Forced, fake not funny.
HATE HATE HATE these ads!!!!!
Moronic to say the least!
Love my betting and humour!
Worst ad campaign ever!
Will not bet with them after watching this shit!
