Scoundrel Projects creates MCA’s new summer pop-up bar ‘Colour Fields’ for Sydney-siders
Scoundrel has unveiled its latest commission, a summer bar for the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA). Inspired by this season’s headline exhibition, Pipilotti Rist: Sip my Ocean the popular bar offers Sydney-siders and visitors the chance to view the harbour in a different light.
Designed by director and artist James Dive, the facade is created using hundreds of individually dyed and cut industrial PVC strip curtains. Once inside visitors can celebrate summer with a vibrant menu created by Culinary Edge, a colourful cocktail list and Sunday sets by Future Classic.
Scoundrel Projects was selected by the MCA as the creative partner for this summer’s activation.
Says Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE, director, MCA: “For our third summer pop-up, the MCA is collaborating with some of the best creative talent to produce something that’s bold, ambitious and inspired.
“After experiencing the vibrant projections and installations of the pioneering Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist, we hope visitors will enjoy a cool drink at Colour Fields and see Circular Quay in a different light.”
Says James Dive, director, Scoundrel Projects: “This MCA terrace space is without a doubt, the best blank canvas in Sydney. The opportunity to creatively interpret such an iconic location was irresistible.”
Colour Fields is open all summer every Wednesday to Friday from 4pm and Saturday from noon.

PVC strip curtains. Wow. Someone got paid for this? Not art. Garbage.
