Santa dons a leotard and goes Full Christmas in ALDI’s 2020 Christmas campaign via BMF
It’s been a bit of a year. The world’s tenser. Budgets are tighter. But it doesn’t have to end that way. Australians can still Christmas like it’s 2019, thanks to ALDI’s affordable Christmas range.
To lead the joyous respite from reality, ALDI via BMF, has once again enlisted the help of the big red fella. And he’s looking more curvaceous than ever.
Says Dantie van der Merwe and David Fraser, creative directors, BMF: “The world seemed in need of a ridiculous escape, so it felt like a good time to reveal Santa’s hidden talents.”
Says Paul Coles, general manager, BMF: “This Christmas, more than any other, demands a gifting and gourmet extravaganza. With an exceptional festive range, at ALDI prices, you can definitely go large this Christmas.”
The integrated campaign has launched with brand films running on TV and longer formats running online, supported by radio, OOH, catalogue, in store POS, website and social.
The campaign will also live across a series of 15 second retail spots to showcase ALDI’s great prices across its quality range of Christmas products.

This brings more joy to my week.
Best Christmas ad of 2020.
Best Chrissy present since Donny gifted me the election!
This makes me smile, nailed it… time forth a bit of fun 🤩
Yes good.
Nice to have a laugh after such a hard year, makes me look forward to enjoying Christmas.
Myer already scooped that prize. Soz.
Well done guys. Feels like the xmas ad we all need.
Yes different. Not sure about good.
Whats with the music. Terrible.
Nicely done, Emily and Kiah.
That is one horribly lame music track. Through a sock and under a pillow. Totally not in the genre
This is the best Christmas ad for 2020.
Great work again BMF.
Go Emiy and Kiah!! Nice nice nice love love love.
Well done legends. Love it!
Surfing Santas II
good silly fun. nice one
Go on with your bad selves, Em + Kiah
Great clients get great work.
Congrats to all and sundry on this one…
Usually a big fan of these each year, but didn’t dig this one.
Literally felt a little blue and laboured.
This ad, not the increase in stores or commercial model, will be the reason for another sales record this Christmas.
Quirky concept, for a quirky brand. No real risks taken again, could literally pitch anything.
A miss for me. The grade on the spot feels a bit 2010, and the retouching in the stills is a bit hit and miss. I don’t mind the thought but it’s exceptionally a bit rough.
What issue are you seeing with the stills? They look great!
it felt a bit flat to me, ho hum and watered down.
Sorry I don’t see what all the BMF bloggers are seeing. What’s so good about this ad. The idea is average at best (very try hard), I feel like I seen the effects many times before, the music is lame and it’s way to long.
As a punter, it’s not going to get me shopping at Aldi, but hey I don’t work at BMF.
Great as always Aldi *thumbs up emoji*
The never-ending ham was genius. The backyard cricketer who won’t call time until the aldi food came out was also genius. Converting americans to an australian christmas was also genius. This just kind of lacks something, like an idea?
The track was woeful, lacked any emotion and why does it look like it’s shot on a broadcast camera.
There are many bad ads on TV but there are only a few that are so excruciating that I must turn the channel. This is one of them.
It’s cringe worthy, lame, unoriginal and not very Aldi. Haven’t we seen a bunch of Santas in water before for Aldi?
What’s the idea?
It’s the best this season.
But the music, VO and combo of chlorinated water and turkey leaves it well behind ALDI Xmas ads of the past
Love love love this. This Christmas we need extra Santa’s.
Love the still too and the Santa Christmas tree – great execution.
Talk about a movie poster… hot hot hot! Thanks ALDI.
First bad Christmas and they’ve made.
All I want for Christmas is an idea.
Good.But this year Woolies better.
Regular-scale Xmas = 1 x Santa.
Full-on Xmas = Multiple, stupidly-synchronised Santas.
Seems pretty straight-forward to me. It’s festive A.F compared to everything else in the ad-break. Well done guys.
Excellent Christmas ad!
I have always been a Coles shopper but starting today I am switching!
Feels like we got re-gifted the UK spot.
“are you not entertained?!”
Banger track (don’t hate me). Santa’s do the Christmas heavy lifting.
Creative ad, as someone not in the creative industry, caught my attention, made me laugh and will have me shopping at aldi this Chrissy!
Your unnecessary apostrophe is a dead giveaway
Me don’t like this ad and me don’t like shopping at Aldi.
Give me Coles or Woolworths any day.
Christmas this year goes to Woolies followed by Aldi followed by Myer.
Aldi have had some great Christmas campaigns in recent years. This isn’t one of them.
Terrible execution. Nothing interesting with the performance, it looks cheap and isn’t very engaging at all.
Sorry it’s a miss from me, but I’m sure other people with bad taste will like it.
Hope the kids in this country pool weren’t denied use of the pool for too long. Not Aldi’s best ad.
What pool was used for this add
What pool was used for this add
Wyong Pool, Central Coast NSW.
I would love to know the location of the latest Aldi Christmas Ad. It looks like a regional area.
I don’t understand why people are so critical. This ad is so sweet and uplifting. The music really gets my attention. I am curious how these fat blokes are so fit?
