no sunday blues and Mavens bring 60+ industry leaders together for Aussie expat Jane Evans’ Sydney leg of ‘The Gospel Of A Mad Woman’ tour
Last night industry recruiters no sunday blues together with independent adland movement Mavens, co-hosted the Sydney leg of Jane Evans’ Australian tour, The Gospel Of A Mad Woman, bringing together close to 60 people from across advertising, PR, media, production and innovation. Guests from Dentsu, Lion, News Corp, Houston Group, Who Gives A Crap, Candid Films, MAAd Collective and more were in the room for it.
One of advertising’s most decorated and fearless voices, Evans is a founder, author, B&T Lifetime Achievement Award winner and the force behind the Uninvisibility Project, a movement challenging the epidemic of invisibility that midlife women face across every industry. Her career spans more than four decades: she launched Microsoft Word, created the Tim Tam Genie campaign (still running more than 30 years later), gave Australia James Squire Beer, and helped bring Sydney’s Olympic bid to life. She was the first woman in the creative department three times over.
One of her generation’s most successful advertising women, Evans found herself becoming completely invisible to her industry in her fifties, and quickly recognised that this wasn’t just her story. There is an epidemic of unemployment and invisibility for midlife women across every industry. Rather than accept it, she decided to do something about it.
Evans spoke about her career, her fight, her failures and her fire. She was funny, honest, uncomfortable in the best possible way and completely, unapologetically herself.
“We built no sunday blues to create spaces for conversations that actually matter,” says Charlotte Flood, Co-founder of no sunday blues. “Last night was exactly that. A room full of people who needed to hear it, and more than a few who didn’t realise they did until they were sitting in it. Jane doesn’t just talk about change, she is the change.”
The Australian tour continues in Melbourne next Thursday 28 May at HERO.
