New Specsavers TVC directed by Australia’s Tim Bullock sees collision of nation’s pastimes
Specsavers’ latest ‘Should’ve’ TV commercial, ‘Workout’, directed by Australia’s Tim Bullock, pits the active against the not-so-active in a myopic mistake that creates some hilarious hip-shaking, butt-wiggling, high-kicking action.
The campaign breaks in the UK during ITV’s X Factor on Saturday, when it will also be made available across social platforms and the X-Factor voting app.
The ad features a very enthusiastic but hurried and short-sighted aerobics instructor, Holly, who arrives at the local community centre to teach a high energy workout. Armed with a thumping boombox that blasts out LMFAO’s Sexy And I Know It, Holly is soon into her programme of fast-moving, calorie-busting moves. But the class is a bit slow to get going today. I wonder why?
Social and digital support comprises a YouTube live takeover all day on Saturday 26th October, with uploads to Specsavers’ Facebook page and Twitter account coinciding with the TV commercial’s debut. These uploads will be further supported by extra content, like spoof fly-on-the-wall moments and interviews, to extend the time frame of the incident as viewers meet the characters and hear their reactions to what’s just happened. The campaign additionally encourages second screen viewing by integrating with the X Factor voting app. On Monday 28th October, Workout will take over the MSN home page for the whole day.
The campaign was directed by Hungryman’s Tim Bullock, who also helmed Specsavers’ last major TV commercial, Vet, in May 2013.
Says Neil Brush and Simon Bougourd, creatives at Specsavers Creative: “Workout is a feel-good commercial that should be fun to watch again and again. We’re confident it will put a smile on the faces of TV and digital audiences, from young to old.”
Says Graham Daldry, creative director at Specsavers Creative: “Since its inception in 2003, the ‘Should’ve’ strapline has given us ever-evolving opportunities to use humour as a way of engaging our audience. Comedy-driven branded content tends to be shared organically so, in addition to breaking during British TV’s highest profile slot, it’s also tailor-made for social media.”

Love it!
She didn’t have glasses on so she couldn’t tell she was in the wrong room, with the the wrong students. Get it? She couldn’t See! Get it? Get it? Its hilarious! Get it? And then the old people who you don’t expect to dance like that… they do! It’s hilarious, because she can’t see. Get it?
So, lemme get this straight, the fact that she couldn’t see clearly caused a bunch of old, given up on life people to have some fun for a change.
I hope no one goes to Specsavers in that case. Clearly the world’s a better place when your vision’s dodgy.
dumb arse
Its just all simple good clean fun. Don’t take yourself seriously people.
Well done Tim
This is funny. Well done.
who is the fitness instructor?
the actress looks like sheridan smith from two pints of lager and a packet of crisps but not to sure
This is the worst advert ever, reminds you of some council estate woman, who would pull out in front of you and not even acknowledge you if you allowed her to. Then I see it is directed by a Aussie, why must we have these people with their brash humour, I remember going to Oz and the customs officer, saying to him you haven’t put down if you had a criminal conviction on the form. The Brummie bloke said I didn’t know you had to still have one to get in. The Customs officer was not pleased and gave him his passport and refused him entry. The Indian bloke and I couldn’t stop our laughter at our Birmingham friends humour. The customs bloke said to the Indian you can shit up Paki, and detained me to ask me if I was there to work. Denied me entry for a work permit, so I find it strange that someone with no talent gets a work permit, but typical of out govt to keep out people employed. Maybe they need a Spec savers ad with immigration officers in UK and Kiwis and Aussies coming to work and his rubber stamping them and then strip searching Doris, and calling her Al-Queda operative
i think this is a great and funny way to break a negative stereo type that bad eyesight and an assumed condition of pyshical frailty are part of old age keep up the good work.
Ideai for ad father in pool throws three kids up in the air into the pool little old lady floats by on Lilo grabs her and throws her up in the air
I have a great idea for you…..contact my email

makes me snigger every time i see it
well done tim and very well done holly hope you payed her well
