Mitsubishi Motors is calling on TikTokers across Australia to #LiveOutlandish in an Australian-first competition launched this month. Intrepid social media fans can compete to win a road-trip adventure and star in their own ‘Live Outlandish’ one-off Foxtel special by filming how they ‘Live Outlandish’ and posting their video on TikTok under #LiveOutlandish.

The four-week competition is TikTok’s largest Australian automotive campaign to date and celebrates the launch of the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander SUV.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia general manager of marketing and product strategy Oliver Mann, said the sleek and ultra-stylish mid-sized Outlander SUV has arrived at the perfect time for Australians: “With lockdowns lifting and borders reopening, Australians are eager to explore and reconnect with friends and family. We want to celebrate the nation’s newfound freedom with a one-of-a-kind travel competition that includes the opportunity to star on TV for the lucky winner.”

Spearheading the TikTok challenge is Aussie creator Dylan Pawson. Best known for his high-octane parkour antics alongside his brother Brodie, Dylan kicked off the ‘Live Outlandish’ competition with a video of himself jumping out of an Outlander, somersaulting over rocky terrain and diving off a cliff.

Other creators encouraging Australian TikTokers to embrace their adventurous spirit and show how they and their family are ‘outlandish’ include pint-sized skateboarder Polly Anna Sk8 and influencer Zara Liang. At just two years of age, Polly Anna has amassed over 1million followers on TikTok thanks to her outlandish skating tricks, while Zara documents her father’s outlandish Kung-Fu inspired routines.

Says Mann: “The TikToker with the winning video will win the all-expenses-paid 10-day family holiday, along with the chance to test out the new Outlander, the ultimate family-ready SUV that brings city-chic to any road trip.”

The program will be produced in partnership with Foxtel Media and Dundas Media with the family road-trip curated by renowned travel expert, Jason Dundas.

Alex Wright, head of brand and content partnerships Melbourne at Foxtel Media said they are thrilled to partner with Mitsubishi, TikTok and Dundas Media: “This one-off special capitalises on our linear and streaming platforms, creating new ways for Mitsubishi to interact and engage with our audiences. The program will be a one off ‘Live Outlandish’ special airing on FOXTEL in early 2022.”

The competition was inspired by a recent Mitsubishi survey which found a third of Aussies feel more adventurous and are willing to try something new, compared to before the pandemic.

The survey also indicated that 40% of Aussies are planning to prioritise travel within their home state in the coming months.

The term outlandish – a word historically associated with something unfamiliar or sometimes bizarre – has now taken on a range of meanings for Australians, including stepping outside of one’s comfort zone and enrichment through new experiences. The survey found that 12 per cent of Australians simply associate the term with ‘being yourself’.

Says Mann: “The #LiveOutlandish challenge is running on TikTok until 5 December and brings the all-new Outlander and the chance to win a fun-filled, unique competition to a whole new audience.”

A winner will be announced on 16 December 2021.
