“Mean Girls” directing duo join Merv
Coming off the back of this year’s box office smash hit “Mean Girls” directing duo Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr have joined up with Merv for exclusive representation in Australasia.
Samantha + Arturo are partners in directing and life. They most recently co-directed “Mean Girls” (2024), collaborating closely with Tina Fey to bring her celebrated Broadway musical twist on the original film to the big screen. The film was a box office and critical success making over 100+ million worldwide.
Previously, the duo wrote and directed “Quarter Life Poetry”, which Jayne also starred in.
The series premiered at Sundance, where IndieWire named them one of The 14 Breakout Stars of the Festival. The series is based on Jayne’s humor book published by Grand Central, evolved from an Instagram account lauded by Vogue, Seventeen, and Allure as one of the “funniest accounts you need to follow”. The series went on to air on FX’s “Cake” and lives on FX on Hulu.
Perez has helmed many music videos for world renowned collective La Blogothèque, working with top artists from Paul McCartney to FINNEAS. His “stunning” Justin Timberlake x Chris Stapleton live one-take “Say Something” garnered him an MTV Best Director nomination and winner of the UK Music Video Award.
Together, Jayne’s sharp comedic wit and Perez’ cinematic ingenuity make the pair a unique combination, tackling humor with visual splendor. Jayne and Perez met in 2012 and have been creating together ever since.
This year, Samantha and Arturo also had a Starbucks ad play at the Super Bowl.
