MCX company Geronimo opens in Melbourne; John McKoy joins as commercial director

Mobile Customer Experience (MCX) company Geronimo has opened in Melbourne with John McKoy, the former global chief revenue officer for advertising intelligence and digital media business, Exponential, appointed as commercial director.

The launch of the Melbourne office, led by McKoy (pictured above), marks the next stage in Geronimo’s plans to expand to new domestic and international markets over the next 18 months and follows the recent acquisition of data science and analytics company, Data Hatch.

The decision to open in the Victorian capital reflects a growing number of Geronimo’s clients, both brands and agencies, who have engaged them to provide expertise and support via business and technology consulting, CX, UX and UI design, creative development, media, data and analytics to connect people, products and brands across the mobile ecosystem.

During his ten years at Exponential, McKoy launched the Melbourne operations and consolidated its Australia business, rapidly growing it from three to 26 people, before launching New Zealand and South Africa. He became managing director for APAC in 2010 and three years later was appointed chief revenue officer on the executive team for the US headquartered business. With responsibility across commercial and sales teams in the US, Canada, Europe, UAE and APAC, McKoy helped build a global business across 22 countries.

Says Matt Hunt, CEO at Geronimo: “The move to Melbourne marks the next phase of our plan to enter into other territories where our experience in MCX can deliver incremental value to agencies and clients. John’s wealth of international experience and pedigree in starting and growing businesses around the world, makes him perfectly placed to lead Geronimo Melbourne and help us drive our international expansion plans.”

Says McKoy: “Melbourne presents a significant opportunity for Geronimo. We are already working with a number of leading agencies and clients and I’m confident we can rapidly grow our presence here. I’m excited to have joined an amazing business and team to help drive the expansion both in Australia and overseas.”

In addition to the Data Hatch acquisition, Mark Murray, former BT Financial chief marketing officer, has joined the Geronimo as partner and chief operating officer.
