McDonald’s says summer is better shared in latest campaign via DDB Group Aotearoa

McDonald’s welcomes in the warmer months in its latest campaign via DDB Group, showcasing how summer (and some delicious Macca’s) is better when it’s shared.

Summer is a time when many can enjoy well-earned break, but the latest campaign recognises those who may not be able to spend as much time with friends and family.

The campaign sets up the notion of spending some time with friends and whānau – with Macca’s making it that much easier for those balancing time between family and work.

The campaign follows a Kiwi dad who, despite working through much of Summer, is making the best of the circumstances – getting creative with what’s around his worksite to ‘play’ with his tamariki.

Karla Fisher, lead business partner at DDB Aotearoa says, the campaign acknowledges the many who might not get to put down the tools during the summer months: “We know there are many New Zealanders who don’t always get to take a lot of time off over summer, so we wanted to bring to light those who work tirelessly but equally go the extra mile to squeeze in time with to spend time with those they love. Sometimes that means grabbing an easy Macca’s meal to share.”

Leigh Benvie, head of brand and marketing, McDonald’s agrees that sharing Macca’s is something synonymous with a Kiwi summer: “Whether it’s driving through on the way to the beach, or grabbing a meal to have in the park, Macca’s makes it that much easier for New Zealanders to get together with their friends and family over a summer meal.”

Alongside the campaign is an interactive element that allows people to choose how they share their summer. Summer Combos is a competition that will run alongside activations in restaurants across the country with support on the app along with OOH & digital presence. From late December Kiwis will be able to choose their favourite Macca’s menu item, who they want to share it with and where, with a chance to win their ultimate summer combo.

Adds Leigh: “Summer can remind us of how time with family is precious. Whether it’s setting aside an afternoon to serve up Big Macs at the beach with your mates, enjoying a soft serve by the lake with your Gran, or maybe Chicken McNuggets in the back garden with the family – undoubtedly summer is always better shared.”
