McCann appoints John Mescall to national ECD role following Sydney ECD Oliver Maisey’s decision to return to NZ after 14 month stint
McCann has appointed John Mescall to the role of national executive creative director following a consolidation of the creative departments of McCann Sydney and McCann Melbourne.
Mescall (left) will replace McCann Sydney creative director, Oliver Maisey, who has returned to his homeland New Zealand after 14 months in the role.
Both offices will effectively function as one creative department under Mescall, with creative leadership in each office. In Sydney, creative directors Joe Hawkins and Kieran Flanagan will report directly to Mescall, as will McCann Melbourne creative directors Pat Baron and Annie Price.
Mescall told CB: “This really just formalises the existing working relationship we’ve had between our Sydney and Melbourne offices. In Joe, Kieran, Pat and Annie we’ve got a great range of talents and aptitudes, and for myself it’s nice to be able to call two cities home.”

When your product is exceedingly average, your only option is to cut costs.
John what is your beauty secret. You look just the same as when at JWt roughly 15 years ago!!
You need to let us all know what product you use.

Working at McCanns is a dumb way to die.
Big-ups John! Best brain in the agency, well deserved!
Well done again Pat. Congrats.
I really dont see the appeal in any of McCann’s work, even the so called dumb ways to die. If that is great work I’m totally in the wrong business.
yes, if you don’t see the appeal in a campaign that garnered the world’s attention for all the right reasons… and harnessed social media like few campaigns have ever managed before.. then I’d say you ARE in the wrong business. Scary.
It’s great to see how John’s career has kicked on after he finished playing for Hawthorn.
