Marit Weerheijm signs with The Sweetshop for representation in Australia and New Zealand

Marit Weerheijm is expanding her reach into the Southern Hemisphere signing with The Sweetshop for representation in Australia and New Zealand.

Weerheijm’s films are carefully crafted with subtle storytelling, layered characters and affecting imagery. Her compassion for human emotion is apparent through the subtext of her films which embody empathy and authenticity. Her work displays a deep understanding for interpersonal relationships, capturing the intimate moments that exist in the unspoken.

Weerheijm’s recently released piece for CrossCountry Trains UK is a beautiful reflection of her talent. The spot is expertly crafted and emotionally poignant whilst remaining grounded in masterful storytelling.

Says Weerheijm: “In talking to the Australian and NZ teams, I got a sincere sense of their wish to push great storytelling and support an artist-driven company. Conversations immediately felt relaxed and I loved how they were not just interested in my work as a commercial director, but also my work as a director of fiction. Given I am working on my first feature film right now, this means a lot to me. I’m very excited to start this new collaboration with these lovely people.”

Says Edward Pontifex, managing director, The Sweetshop: “Greg and I were instantly impressed with Marit’s ability to create beautiful and engaging stories which resonate universally. She is also an incredibly lovely human who we can’t wait to work with.”
