Luke Martin departs Executive CD role at 72andSunny to head up creative at Afterpay

Campaign Brief can reveal that after nearly four years with 72andSunny Luke Martin is departing the agency to head up creative at Afterpay.

Martin will join the inner-house brand team, working across all touchpoints of the brand, including partnering with cross-functional internal teams, and external agencies.

Prior to joining 72andSunny in 2020, Martin relocated to Sydney and had a brief stint at BMF as group CD. Prior to BMF, Martin spent seven years on the US West Coast where he led Facebook’s augmented and virtual reality team Oculus as ECD. He was also a senior creative at Apple in Cupertino where he helped set the vision and aesthetic for a suite of product campaigns. He has previously worked at BMF, TBWA/Media Arts Lab in Los Angeles and Sydney.

While Martin will continue to be located in Sydney, he will not only work with the ANZ team but also with the US and EU teams.

Martin told CB: “It’s a bittersweet feeling leaving 72andSunny, an optimistic team of incredible talent, I’ve loved working with over the past four years. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together and grateful to have had the opportunity to help lead a world-class agency.

“As for my new role, I couldn’t be more stoked to be joining Block and contributing to shaping Afterpay’s brand. The chance to be part of a company that is on a mission to redefine the world’s relationship with money is highly motivating. Joining a strong team at Afterpay, known for their kindness and passion, is a privilege and I look forward to learning and collaborating with them.”

Ross Berthinussen, CEO, 72andSunny ANZ, told CB: “A huge shout out to Luke, we have so much love and heart for him. He helped us build the culture that has powered our success and brand in Australia, from wins including Who Gives A Crap, MLC and BCF, Campaign Brief’s Medium Agency of The Year 2022, Mumbrella and B&T Ad Campaigns of the year and an ARIA for our work with Google. We wish him well and look forward to seeing him crush it.”

Martin’s ECD role will be taken by Scott McClelland, as revealed by CB today.
