Kia launches gran turismo Stinger at Australian Open with new campaign via Innocean Australia
CB Exclusive – Kia is promoting its new gran truism, Stinger, with a new campaign via Innocean Worldwide Australia
Using the Australian Open Tennis as the backbone of the campaign, the agency has produced a series of commercials that will run throughout the telecast.
Heroing the campaign is a 90 sec, supported by a combination of 60 sec, 45 sec, 30 and 15 sec edits. It is the most significant campaign from Kia in recent years and comes on top of Kia delivering 28% growth in 2017.
Says Innocean’s Executive Creative Director, Steve Jackson: “Just when you thought driving cars were endangered, Kia surprises everyone and rolls this beauty out. A car simply built for the hell of it, for the drive of it. So we decided to have a bit of fun with it. Justin McMillan was fantastic and we even got to film with Steve Windon, DOP of The Fast And The Furious. We only broke one camera lens chasing the Stinger!”
Adds Manuel Tyras, Kia’s GM of Marketing: “The Stinger launch is a culmination of a lot of planning, insights and research underpinned by what is a great car with a simple, powerful execution of what a driver wants out of a performance car.”

was going so well, until they showed the car
What a joyless ad.
I’m glad Youtube provided a translation other wise I would have had no idea.
And why does he not actually drive along the lines?
Dumb.

Kia were doing such great work a few years ago! Shows what happens when quality decision makers move on and get replaced by the B-team (either at agency, or client, or I’m guessing in this case – both). Not the first brand it’s happened to and it won’t be the last. Object lesson – make good work while you can. You never know when a good suit or a forward-thinking client is going to go somewhere else.
Unfortunate thing for those working on KIA is that sales are increasing, so the perpetrators of this kind of stuff are going to pat themselves on the back and think that whatever they’re doing is working. I feel for the creatives. Looks like what was once a great piece of business to work on has gotten very hard indeed.
the music in the ad is great what is the name of the song and the artist in the ad
What was the name of the song and artist used in this ad
Music Track: ‘Tornado’ performed by The Hillbilly Moon Explosion
I just saw the short version of the ad while watching the basketball replay on ESPN . The ad was bright bouncy and catchy. I previously had no interest in Kia as a product but actually was entertained which is all too rare in advertising on television. I can’t quite understand the extreme negative comments . But then I’m not in the industry and just a consumer. I found this website by trying to track down the name of the song so I thought I put in my two cents worth.
Please feel free to contact me for any further opinions about culture and taste. More than happy to oblige.
Saw this add for the first time last week on Sunrise – just loved it and the Stinger looks great. Catchy tune. Well done.
Great ad, great music.
Loved seeing the Kia Stinger ad featuring the music of the Jiants. My late husband, Jerry Hedges co-wrote that little diddy with Russel “Andy” Anderson. If you listen carefully you can hear it playing in the background of the Shirley McLaine movie, The Last Word. Unfortunately credits for the movie say that it was written by Lee Balsbaugh. Lee was the piano player. Jerry played guitar. Andy did vocals and Ron Wolfe was on drums. Sadly all have passed except Lee.
