Former Mojo Melbourne writer/creative director Philip Taffs has had a novel published this week in the U.S. The psych-thriller is called Bubby.

Originally titled The Evil Inside and published by Quercus London (publishers of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), the updated and revised U.S. version is through Villa Romana Books in Los Angeles – publishers of crime writer, Anne Rule.

The book has thus far sold 9,000 copies worldwide, mainly in the U.K. and India.

Reviews have been consistently positive.

Says Taffs: “It is very gratifying to finally find a home for Bubby in the U.S.

“I lived on the Upper West Side of Manhattan for a year in a shabby chic hotel – which inadvertently became research for the book.   Unbeknownst to me before we arrived, our hotel was only 120 metres from the infamous Dakota Building; where John Lennon was shot, and Polanski filmed exteriors for Rosemary’s Baby. So, in a way I was entering my own spooky, psychic universe.

“The U.S. market is the original market I wrote it for.”

Described by one reviewer as American Psycho meets The Shining, Bubby tells the story of an Australian copywriter and his family moving from Melbourne to Manhattan where they begin to experience a series of terrifying events that may be real or imagined.

The book is also available via Amazon Australia here.
