Flint signs Tom Franks to expanding roster of talented photographers / directors

Leading Australian photographer and emerging director Tom Franks has joined Sydney based integrated production company, Flint. An experienced conceptual and portrait photographer, Franks has produced work for major Australian and international brands.

Says Rachel Henderson, EP, Flint: “Tom is an exciting addition to our team at Flint. We’re looking forward to working together to grow his career as a director, drawing on his capabilities as an accomplished photographer. In both his commercial and personal work, Tom brings a deep sense of humanity to the lens and combines a capacity for rich storytelling with his technical expertise. His work is cinematic, powerful, and complex, yet maintains a level of honesty and relatability, making him uniquely placed to deliver even the most complicated advertising briefs.”

Says Franks: “I’m thrilled to be joining the team at Flint, to work alongside some of Australia’s most talented photographer/directors and producers, and to be expanding my work as a director.”

Having repeatedly earned a place in Luerzer’s Archive Top 200 Advertising Photographers Worldwide, Franks is renowned for his ability to combine raw, narrative driven portraiture with cutting-edge technical capabilities. From the jungles of Rwanda to the dusty plains of outback Australia, Franks has a hunger for digging deep into the stories behind the people and places he captures on film, to surface hidden narratives and explore additional layers of complexity.

Anticipation is building for Franks’ latest series, presenting a glimpse into the lives of ‘everyday’ gun owners in the US state of Arizona. Over two weeks in January, Franks was able to talk his way into the living rooms of seemingly ordinary citizens, to unearth a series of images that deliver a haunting message about gun culture in the USA. Amid armouries of semi-automatics, glocks and rifles – sitting alongside children’s toys and fine china – Franks was able to connect to the humans at the centre of this suburban warzone, including some senior members of the National Rifle Association, to capture the frightening reality of their relationships with their guns. The stunning series is scheduled for release in March this year.
