Flinders University launches ‘fearless’ new brand campaign via Showpony


What would you do if you were fearless? This provocative question underpins the new Fearless brand platform developed for Flinders University developed by Showpony.


The position taps into the University’s unique history, reflecting the courage of the University’s namesake, Matthew Flinders, and his lesser-known companion, Aboriginal man Bungaree, who saved the expedition multiple times.

It also reflects the charge of the founding Vice Chancellor, Professor Peter Karmel – “Experiment, and experiment bravely” – and the institution’s continued commitment to forging new ways forward.

Says Callista Thillou, executive director, communications, marketing and engagement, Flinders University: “In era of profound change, this brand platform is more relevant now than ever, speaking to the needs and aspirations of today’s students.”

Beginning with a teaser featuring outdoor and series of provocative 30” videos, the launch of Fearless culminates in a 60” and 30” video, featuring the voices and performances of the people of Flinders – a collective response to the question “What would you do if you were fearless?” collated from interviews with Flinders University students, teachers, researchers and alumni.

Says Parris Mesidis, group creative director, Showpony: “Early in the process we undertook in-depth research with students, and their responses really framed the strategic and creative response. It was important to reflect the attitude of the people that make Flinders University what it is.”

Adds Rory Kennett-Lister, creative director, Showpony: “Fearless is such a bold position, especially within higher education. Our creative needed to do justice to that position. It was a privilege to work with a client that shared that belief, backed us, and were fearless themselves.”
