Fathom celebrates one year of business with multiple awards

After one year in business, Fathom has taken its place as a leading studio for visual effects in the region after winning Gold and Silver in Visual Effects at the 2024 Axis awards last week.

A sister company of award-winning studio Assembly, Fathom was founded by VFX supervisors Damon Duncan and Rhys Dippie. With backgrounds in high-end CG, compositing, design, and film direction, Duncan and Dippie each have over 20 years’ experience producing award winning work across advertising, digital, film and episodic TV.

Fathom was born out of a desire to create a modern VFX pipeline and apply it to projects both at home and internationally. A studio created by filmmakers for filmmakers and their clients. Fathom has a new, bespoke studio in Kingsland, Auckland, with premium modular suites for editing, colour grading and online.

‘The Lost Voice’ is a film to showcase a bold new Apple iPhone innovation ‘Personal Voice’ and was launched on the 2023 International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Working closely with Hungry Man and Apple, Fathom was tasked with creating CG creature enhancements and environments, and many subtle visual effects throughout the film, which has now had 19m views to date.
