Enigma bolsters brand capabilities with acquisition of Sydney-based brand and design agency Born and Raised

Enigma Communication, one of Australia’s largest independent agencies, has acquired Sydney-based brand and design agency Born and Raised. The Born and Raised core team is led by Managing Director Chris Laws , who will maintain his position as Managing Director at Enigma.

Enigma founder and CEO Lisa Sutton Gardner said the acquisition bolstered Enigma’s capabilities at a time when the business was focussed on growth and amplifying its creative strength: “This partnership feels like a natural fit due to Enigma’s ambitions to grow our brand offering.”

Born and Raised has a successful track record in building and delivering brand solutions, and Laws said the partnership would allow the Born and Raised story to continue under a different masthead with a broader, full-service team.

Says Laws (above left): “We were looking for opportunities to expand and to be part of a successful and well-established agency that has strong ambitions to lift its offering and scale up. I am proud to bring Born and Raised staff and clients the benefit of working with the Enigma full-service powerhouse.”

Born and Raised has an impressive pedigree of clients in the retail, property, home, education, travel and tourism sectors.

Laws and two partners founded Born and Raised seven years ago, and prior to that Laws was General Manager at Moon for eight years, where he focused on strategy and client service.

This acquisition aligns with Enigma’s expansion into brand which began with the appointment of Lee Valentine (above right) as Executive Director in April last year. Formerly of Hoyne Design, Valentine has championed growth and expansion into brand marketing – his area of expertise.

Since Valentine joined the Enigma team the business has achieved consistent and considered growth largely due to an expanded brand and media workforce.

Enigma was founded in Newcastle 26 years ago and now operates from bases in Newcastle and Surry Hills. With a team of more than 75 staff, Enigma is a full service creative and media agency working with a wide selection of national brands and Government agencies in a range of sectors including property, destination, home, transport, resources, education and finance.
