Engineers Australia rewrites F1 History with launch of ‘In Her Corner’ campaign via Bastion
Bastion and Engineers Australia will make Formula 1 history this International Women’s Day, with the launch of In Her Corner at the season opening Australian Grand Prix on Sunday March 8.
Globally, F1 circuits are steeped in heritage, with corners named after motorsport legends. Until now, none have recognised the women shaping the sport through engineering excellence.
For the first time in Formula 1 history, a corner will be named after women.
Originated by Bastion and developed in partnership with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, In Her Corner will see Turn 6 at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit renamed in honour of two trailblazing engineers: Laura K. Müller, Race Engineer at TGR Haas F1 Team and the first female full time race engineer in Formula 1, and Hannah Schmitz, Head of Race Strategy at Oracle Red Bull Racing & Red Bull Technology.
Already making global headlines, the initiative builds on Bastion’s three-year partnership with Engineers Australia under its Making Life Happen platform, designed to reposition engineering as modern, ambitious and culturally relevant. With just 13% of engineers in Australia women, Engineers Australia challenged Bastion to make engineering the most talked about profession in the country.
Formula 1 provided the ultimate stage. As the pinnacle of engineering performance and innovation, it offered cultural relevance at scale. By launching in the lead up to International Women’s Day and partnering with one of the world’s most watched sporting events, Bastion has placed Engineers Australia in a position of strength, putting the profession at the centre of national and global conversation.
Turn 6 will also feature the Engineers Australia ‘In Her Corner’ Grandstand and an Innovation Hub, showcasing how engineers make motorsport happen and creating a direct pathway for students and fans to see themselves in the profession.
In addition to the on-track activity, there is a ticketed In Her Corner event on Thursday with panel discussions involving Laura, Hannah and some of the most influential figures in Formula 1, including Global F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, to discuss the importance of representation in motorsport and engineering.
Says Jamie Fletcher, Art Director, Bastion: “From the moment we started to bring this idea to life, the momentum has kept building. And then having incredible talent like Laura and Hannah come on board has pushed that excitement and motivation up a notch. We are incredibly proud to develop an initiative that puts women engineers at the forefront of a global sport like Formula 1.”
Says Simon Langley, Chief Creative Officer at Bastion: “It is not often you have the opportunity to create something that genuinely shifts culture. In Her Corner is more than a naming rights moment. It is a statement for change. Partnering with Engineers Australia and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation to make history at Formula 1 is exactly the kind of impact we believe brands should be making.”
Says Richard Riboni, General Manager Brand and Marketing, Engineers Australia: “Engineering is one of the most important professions shaping our future, yet too many young women do not see it as a path open to them. In Her Corner puts women engineers in the spotlight at one of the most visible and celebrated engineering arenas in the world. By working with Bastion and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, we are not only celebrating extraordinary talent, we are showing the next generation that they belong in this profession. This initiative reflects our commitment to building a more diverse and inclusive engineering workforce and to leading that change from a position of strength.”
While launching in Australia at the opening race of the 2026 season, the ambition for In Her Corner is global. By setting a precedent at Albert Park, Bastion and Engineers Australia hope to see recognition of women in engineering extend across other races and circuits worldwide.
