Dentsu’s SMG Studio wins inaugural BAFTA Games Award for LEGO Party!
Dentsu’s SMG Studio has won its first-ever BAFTA Games Awards for LEGO Party! in London, adding to its global momentum after taking out ‘Best Family Game’ at the D.I.C.E. Awards earlier this year.
Presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the BAFTA Games Awards are among the most prestigious honours in the global screen industries.
The win marks a major milestone for the Australian-based studio, with LEGO Party! developed in partnership with the LEGO Group and game publisher Fictions.
Mark Fennell, Director of Gaming & Innovation at SMG Studio, said the award was a dream result for the team: “We set out to create something that brings families and communities together through play and we’re so proud to see the impact that the game is having. To be recognised at both the BAFTA and D.I.C.E Awards this year is a dream come true for our team.”
Says Rob Harvey, CEO of dentsu ANZ: “This is a significant global achievement for SMG Studio and a proud moment for our business. It demonstrates our growing capability to create culturally resonant entertainment that extends beyond traditional marketing.”
The BAFTA recognition follows the game’s win at the 29th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards in Las Vegas, widely regarded as the video game industry’s equivalent of the Oscars and voted on by developers and industry peers.
