Who cares !!
I love bestads, but it is interesting to see whybins ranked above campaign palace melbourne, and m&c ranked equal… not exactly a normal representation in terms of cannes etc.
All agencies should submit more work. Then the work will speak for itself..
I (hope) lynchy turns this into a weekly award show… with no statues or trophies or ceremonies…
call it the ‘no show’ or something. The most prestigious award in the industry… no award needed.
okthxbai.
The problem is the WK portland Coke spot with the big charlie brown balloon gets one point as does the DDB NZ print ad for pink batts.
You’re thinking: Pink batts? who the fuck is that? it’s an insulation company that no one has every heard of. And no one has ever seen their work either! except on sites like bestadsontv.com and adsoftheworld.com.
We all know which one of these pieces will be remembered by the punters in years to come.
You have to compare oranges with oranges.
agencies like DDB NZ and JWT Sydney may get onto lists like these. But in terms of relevance to the rest of the world beyond advertising, they will never be in the same league as bit hitters like WK portland and mother london.
That’s what we need more of, more award shows. 2009 will be about holding onto clients and dealing with the slashing of budgets.
Your telling me the work that comes out NZ is better than London, USA, Paris etc. Come on.
10.33: You’re right of course. Charlie Brown is a world class spot, Pink Batts print ads are nice print ads but there’s no comparison. But you’re missing the point. Bestads is the only award show that shows the breadth of an agency’s abilities week on week out all through the year, not just their best TV spot. And unlike totally bent award shows (AWARD anyone?) there’s no chance of rigged juries because every week a different creative director from around the world (with no axe to grind) chooses their favourite piece of work. So it’s scrupulously fair. Hats off to DDB i reckon. Look up the work they’ve done last year on the site. Some of its just okay (like Pink Batts) but some is really good (that Tadpoles poster). And they’ve done stuff for a shit load of different big clients, not charities. If my agency had that kind of output I’d be pretty bloody chuffed. With or without a huge Coke spot.
Actually 10.33, in New Zealand Pink Batts is a revered national icon like Qantas in Aussie…whoops, bad choice.
10:33,
Im sure McCanns and Y&R NY thought the same about young little upstart shits that’ll never go anywhere agencies like W&K and Mother 10 years ago too.
Please a little perspective. You have to start somewhere.
Love,
Another young little upstart shit of an agency not on this list.
Well done DDB Auckland! – Imagine how many more points you would score if you had a sexy account and client like ‘Nike’!
Hats off to Toby and the team!
What’s the criteria?
Lots of scam on here padding the numbers.
I’m guessing Lynchy isn’t able to spent hours clarifying what has really run.
Actually, 10.09, if you look up Whybins work on Best Ads and compare it to the Palace’s, you’ll probably see why they are ranked higher. I just did.
11:10 – just illustrating a point, nothing personal. Cummins Brisbane is ranked ahead of Leos Sydney. Which is why agencies should enter more work.
Odd.
There’s no Mumbai agencies in the top anything.
Funny that, because they pissed all over us in Award.
Or ‘highlighted’ our failings, as the case may be.
Winning awards is so 80’s
If you want to be on that list, stop whining, enter as much work as possible and pray it gets picked. If it’s good and with a bit of luck on your side, it will. If you don’t agree, then stop whining anyway and get back to that double sided Sale DL flyer, deadlines’ looming….
Two agencies call to offer you a job.
One is number one on the bestadsontv ratings – DDB NZ
The other one is right at the bottom of the list, the lowest of the lows – Wieden + Kennedy, Portland
Which job would you take?
ANONOMOUSLY….
BULL SHIT !
They’re on to you!
Hey 11.54. I know you used Whybins and Cummins as examples, but I think you are missing a bigger point. You assume that Leos, or the Palace, or M&C are better because they have won more gongs.
And they may have. But how good is their average work? Iif you search Cummins and then search Burnetts, you’ll find that Cummins deserve their spot ahead of Leos because their work on average is better. Ditto Whybins.
The upside is the one mentioned earlier. A campaign can only be exposed once, so an agency can’t skate by on multiple awards for a single piece of work.
There are mumbai agencies, we can go on bestadsontv website to see india rankings.
And how, may I ask, was the “best creative” judged?
By awards?
Positive comments from peers in the ad industry?
Or sales?
Got a gut feeling number three wasn’t in there.
Love to be wrong – but am I?
I await correction.
It’s all crap, basically.
Bur it kind of works as a research exercise.
Because, lets be honest, Kiwi agencies have been doing better stuff than Australian agencies for years.
It’s a cultural thing, I suspect with various causes, but it’s a simple fact.
Christ, they even seem to develop better directors than us.
I looked at the Whybins work and it all sucked serious ass. Sorry.
Well done Switzerland.
