Yesterday the Chicks In Advertising came together at the Winery Surry Hills to celebrate the festive season and the end to a fabulous 2015.
Over the last year the social networking group has more than doubled in size to over 250 members in Sydney, proving to be a valuable forum for industry producers and creatives to come together.
CIA events are designed to stimulate conversation, creativity and raise funds for related charities – all while enjoying a wine and a good gossip.

Fully support a group like this and me wonders tho – what would the industry press say about an Advertising Men’s Only group and lunch? Would that be sexist, arcane or politically incorrect? Why?

Like this one bloke?
Shots fired.
Does that group exclude women like CIA excludes men?
Did we have to call the chicks?
Grow up!
As a woman in advertising this just perplexes me.
“We are equal. We are equal. We are equal to men. But seriously guys – let’s start a group that clearly states that we perceive ourselves as unequal by segregating ourselves into a group bound only by our gender!”
C’mon women. Seriously?
This is part of the problem.
Men allowed as long as they don a nice frock and wear a bit of lippy.
As a woman in advertising it does not perplex me that this group exists. There’s no question women have equal ability. It’s about equal access to opportunity to use that ability. As this year’s AWARD call for entries makes clear, you have to do the hours to win awards and push your career forward. This is very, very difficult if you happen to also be a mother, for example. A key reason why there are still so few women CDs. Any opportunity to rally support to change this is a good move for our industry.
If the world was perfectly equal and egalitarian we would not need support groups for any minority. But the world isn’t like that, so groups like this are actually really important.
I wonder if there would ever be a venue big enough to host “Dicks in Advertising”
Yes! It’s called Leo Burnett’s!
Well I think there should be quotas. Agency functions should be forced to have more attractive women.
Let’s be real here – this isn’t about addressing gender imbalances in the creative department.
Looking at those shots, almost every woman there is a producer. Instead of making this about gender, why not also invite the 4 male producers in Sydney and call it Producers In Advertising? It’s all just networking anyway.
BTW – were there any female creatives at this group?
And how can I crash this party?
@Bloke – if you want to start a Men In Advertising group there’s nothing stopping you. Although not sure anyone would want to join MIA. Seems a bit lame.
No-one thinks Chicks In Advertising is lame though. It makes a lot of sense, even just at a gut level. Advertising is male dominated, especially in creative. Seems reasonable for women to get together for a bit of solidarity and support.
Guys in creative departments get that feeling every day when they walk into the office. As a guy who works in a creative department, it feels good to belong. Don’t really need a group. But if you want to start one, nobody’s going to call you sexist. Maybe just a bit of a baby.

Silly billy… there’s already an exclusive group like that for men; it’s called “The Advertising Industry”.
