I’ve always been curious about this. It states “The Bestads Rankings of the top advertising agencies in the world is based on points awarded for work selected in Top 6 of the Week on bestadsontv.com”
Who is responsible for choosing the work selected in Top 6 of the Week? What is the criteria?
Mike, the word ‘Criteria’ is a plural, so it would be correct to say ‘What ARE the critera?”
The single form of criteria is ‘criterion’, as in ‘What IS the criterion?’.
Another example of the use of the word ‘Criterion’ is in the name of so many hotels found around Australia. I don’t know the precise etymology of that use of the word.
However, in the unlikely event that there were two Criterion Hotels in the one town, you might refer to them as ‘The Criteria’, if you were keen to be bashed for being a wise-acre and a smartarse.
They certainly have prospered since they got rid of my sad old white butt back in the naughties.
A word of caution, however.
An agency’s image usually lags the reality by a few years. This looks like a classic example of that.
It’s quite possible that this ranking is still trading on the golden period under the stewardship of Ant Keogh.
So much great work was created under that regime, which succeeded the unremarkable one under which I laboured.
What fabulousness has emerged from Clems Melb since Keogh departed?
