B&A Sydney signs sports, advertising and lifestyle photographer Chris Gurney

B&A Sydney has announced the newest addition to its roster, accomplished photographer Chris Gurney.

With a diverse portfolio capturing professional and amateur athletes across various sports and backgrounds, Gurney brings a dynamic perspective to the agency.

Originally hailing from Perth, WA, Gurney recently made the move to Sydney after several years of extensive travel, collaborating with prominent brands and publications such as Atmos, Victory Journal, Monocle, Nike, ASICs, and Yonex.

Gurney’s unique approach stems from his upbringing in a multicultural family with roots in India, Singapore, and New Zealand. Following the legacy of his grandfather, a passionate photographer, and his mother, a journalist, Gurney holds a degree in photography and journalism. This educational background has shaped his commitment to storytelling and capturing the essence of his subjects.

Commencing his career shooting family and friends, Gurney quickly transitioned to the world of surf photography, earning publications in reputable outlets like Tracks. His distinctive style evolved through collaborations with diverse subjects, ranging from First Nations people on remote land to South Sudanese basketball players in urban Perth and pro surfers in the Mentawai Islands.

Reflecting on his work, Gurney says: “I feel incredibly privileged to be given this level of access and always try to represent people in an authentic but reverent way.”

Today Gurney draws inspiration equally from the sporting world, people from all walks of life, and the natural environments that surround them.
