Aussie expat director Kim Gehrig wins second Outstanding Commercial Emmy for Apple’s ‘I’m Not Remarkable’
Aussie expat director Kim Gehrig of Somesuch has won the 2026 Emmy Award for Outstanding Commercial for Apple’s ‘I’m Not Remarkable’ – Gehrig’s second win in the category, following her 2023 win for Apple’s “The Greatest”. The film also features musical production from fellow Australian Tim Minchin, with whom Gehrig previously collaborated on Sydney Opera House’s ‘Play It Safe’ campaign via The Monkeys, which won the Cannes Film Lions Grand Prix in 2024.
The win marks Apple’s third Outstanding Commercial Emmy in the last four years, following “The Greatest” in 2023 and “Fuzzy Feelings” in 2024, and its fifth Outstanding Commercial Emmy overall.
Released globally for International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the joyous three-minute musical follows Deaf and disabled students through the full college experience, from lectures and deadlines to dorm rooms, friendships and house parties.
Set to the Kittyy & The Class track of the same name, with musical production from Tony Award-winning composer Tim Minchin, the film challenges the familiar portrayal of disabled people as extraordinary simply for living their lives. Through their collective voices, the students reclaim the idea of “remarkable” as something that should be reserved for everyone.
Accessibility features are seamlessly woven into their daily routines, supporting the students as they learn, connect and succeed on their own terms. The film spotlights established features including VoiceOver, AssistiveTouch and Live Captions, alongside Magnifier for Mac, Braille Access and Accessibility Reader, which were introduced to Apple devices that year.
The latest recognition comes as Apple continues to build on more than 40 years of work in accessibility, spanning its products and features as well as campaigns including “The Lost Voice,” “The Relay,” “Heartstrings” and “No Frame Missed”.
Apple also had a second film nominated in the category this year: its holiday film “A Critter Carol,” created by TBWA\Media Arts Lab.
It was a strong night for Apple across the board: the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show with Bad Bunny won a record breaking 7 Emmys, becoming the most awarded halftime performance in the history of the Emmys.
