ANZ reappoints PHD as media agency partner in Australia

ANZ today announced the reappointment of PHD as its media buying and planning agency partner in Australia following a competitive review process.

The review was undertaken to ensure ANZ’s media operating model remains aligned with the bank’s ANZ 2030 strategy and is future fit as the media landscape continues to evolve through rapid advancements in data, technology, AI and media channels.

This announcement concludes a rigorous competitive Request for Proposal for media planning and buying services, which included a comprehensive evaluation of agency capabilities, commercial outcomes, technology and AI maturity. ANZ sought a partner capable of helping the bank deliver greater effectiveness, innovation and value while supporting evolving customer expectations and business priorities.

The multi-stage process assessed agencies against a broad range of criteria and was underpinned by a robust governance framework, cross-functional stakeholder involvement and independent media pricing validation.

PHD, which has served as ANZ’s media agency partner for the past 15 years, demonstrated the strongest overall performance across the assessment, delivering the best combination of strategic leadership, innovation, commercial value and a clear vision for helping ANZ navigate the next phase of media transformation.

PHD will continue to provide media strategy, audience planning, media investment and campaign optimisation services to support ANZ’s brand and customer growth objectives.

ANZ Chief Marketing Officer Sian Chadwick said the process enabled ANZ to identify the strongest partner to support the bank’s long-term ambitions in a rapidly evolving media environment: “On behalf of ANZ, I would like to thank all participating agencies for the professionalism, commitment and strategic thinking they brought to this process.

“The review was intentionally comprehensive, evaluating agencies across strategic leadership, media effectiveness, commercial performance, data and measurement, technology and AI maturity, and operational excellence.

“As customer expectations continue to evolve and technology reshapes the media landscape, it is critical that ANZ partners with organisations that can help deliver effectiveness, innovation and measurable business outcomes.

“PHD emerged as the clear standout across all aspects of the review, demonstrating the strategic thinking, capability and future-focused approach required to help ANZ deliver stronger outcomes for our customers and business. We are delighted to continue our partnership with PHD.”

Says Laura Nice, CEO PHD Australia, part of Omnicom Oceania: “Winning a client for the first time is exciting. Earning the right to keep growing with them after 15 years is something we’re incredibly proud of. The bar was exceptionally high and rightly so. We had to demonstrate not only the value we’re delivering today, but the opportunities that will drive growth tomorrow.

“ANZ has been a foundational client of PHD, and every chapter of that partnership has challenged us to evolve and to set the highest standard – and then push it further. The next phase is the most ambitious yet. Together, we’re pioneering a new era of growth, combining the strength of what we’ve built with a clear vision for where the business can go next.

“I’m so proud of our team, who deliver exceptional work every single day and continue to step up for all of our clients, demonstrating not only what’s possible for ANZ’s future – but how we can help them win it.

“A huge thank you to the ANZ team for their continued trust and partnership. Over 15 years we’ve achieved a great deal together and relationships like this don’t stand still. We’re honoured by the confidence they’ve placed in us and we are so excited to continue building the future together.”
