Amanda Fuller’s Cannes Diary #1: Fast friends, late drama and a long first day

Amanda Fuller, Managing Partner, Omnicom Health Oceania is representing Australia on the Cannes Health & Wellness jury. As judging gets underway in the South of France, Fuller shares her insights from day one inside the jury room, exclusive to CB.

In a town that runs off events at the Palais, the Lions are the largest and seeing the event coming together as a giant construction site on the walk in to judging was a sight to see. The Health + Wellness jury already felt like fast friends from the online judging but today solidified this. The generosity and warmth in the room was next level with small gifts exchanged between countries and our President Kainaz Karmakar (CCO, Ogilvy India) setting the tone for healthy discussion and a robust process to get us through the day.

Health + Wellness is broad and the entries have covered everything from FMCH wellness to health-tech to advocacy and not for profit and all mediums so suffice to say, it was a long day but an exciting one. Our aim was pretty simple, review and further refine our shortlist but there was plenty of drama, including late breaking information, work going in and out of shortlisting and the final pitch at the end to bring back some work from round 1.

All made thoroughly enjoyable by the different viewpoints and diversity of my peers from almost every continent. The difference their insights had on the way the work was review as a group was phenomenal.

Tomorrow will see the shortlist revealed. The work itself is exceptionally brilliant and if your work is in the shortlist, it is to be an epic and proud moment for sure!

The Health & Wellness shortlist will be announced here on Campaign Brief tomorrow, Saturday 20 June, at approximately 5pm AEST.
