Save This Shark, a two-part documentary featuring Mick Fanning will air tonight, Tuesday 15 September, from M&C Saatchi’s THIS. Film Studio (THIS.) and National Geographic. The much-anticipated film follows the 3 x World Champion Surfer turned ocean activist on his mission to explore shark conservation.

From his hometown of Ballina to the tropics of the Bahamas, Fanning returns to the open waters to conquer his fear of sharks and better understand them. Along the way, Fanning investigates the issue of sharks versus people, debunking common misconceptions and, learning about the latest technology helping humans and sharks safely co-exist while saving them from extinction.

Save This Shark marks the latest release by AACTA winning filmmaker and producer Michael Lawrence and Emmy award-winning filmmaker Taylor Steele. Brought to life by the same creative minds behind the studio’s 2019 release, Save This Rhino, Fanning’s journey is the latest instalment in their series of conservation documentaries in partnership with Cisco.

Says Justin Graham, group CEO, M&C Saatchi AUNZ: “Mick Fanning is a 3x world surfing champion, an entrepreneur, a new dad, and frankly an awesome human. Partnering with Mick to better understand sharks in our world through the lens of the infamous incident in South Africa and documenting the changes it made to his life has been an incredible experience.

“The ‘Save This’ series, along with the studio’s other innovative brand-funded projects are exactly why M&C Saatchi created THIS Film. The offering further diversifies our business, bringing the power of creativity and storytelling into new channels to help brands engage with people.”

In 2018, M&C Saatchi Group partnered with award-winning documentary makers, writers, producers and digital content pioneers Michael Lawrence and Nicholas Cook to launch film and television production studio, THIS.

Says Michael Lawrence, founder and CEO of THIS. Film Studio: “At THIS. Film Studio, we’re focused on unleashing the potential of the human spirit with our content. As storytellers, we’re passionate about content that can make powerful and meaningful change. We’ve done just this with Save This Shark, and are proud to be part of Mick’s journey in doing so.”

Lawrence and Cook are behind the critically-acclaimed documentary Bra Boys, about a gang in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, as well as First Love, Fighting Fear, You & Me and the TV Series The Crew. They are joined by Taylor Steele, an award-winning creative and filmmaker known for surf culture filmmaking and his work on Corona’s ‘From where you want to be’ campaign.
