Agencies collaborate on new Indigenous Voice to Parliament campaign; invites Australians to ‘Create Yes’ at launch events nationwide
One month out from the referendum for the Indigenous Voice to Parliament, a new campaign has launched inviting Australians to ‘Create Yes’ as a show of support for the Yes vote.
The campaign has been developed through a collaboration of leading creative agencies and design studios across the country including Frost*collective, Re (M&C Saatchi), Eskimo, Frame, Block, onesmoothstone, Bigfish, Draw, Futago, Josephmark, Tank, and Nightjar.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend launch events to promote the campaign on 13 September in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, and 20 September in Hobart.
The idea for Create Yes is a simple one. People are invited to design the word ‘Yes’ in their own way. It can be type, illustration, motion, photography, video – whatever they like – and to share it on social media tagging @create.yes, #createyes and @yes23au along with why they’re voting Yes.
Create Yes spokesperson Cat Burgess says it’s important to amplify this one single word as people need to write the word ‘Yes’ at the ballot box on October 14: “Create Yes is about a positive movement that uses the power of creativity to support First Nations people and share the many reasons for voting Yes.
‘We’re expecting hundreds of Yes designs in the coming weeks – already some 50 high-profile Australian designers have contributed Yes images for use by the campaign.
“Some of the creations so far from the public include animations, sculptures, photos, collages, embroidery and even a Melbourne button-making club group effort.”
The launch events are open to the public, who can register by visiting www.create-yes.org
Activities at launch events include the creation of a Yes mural at the Brisbane Powerhouse as well as live designing of the word ‘Yes’ to add to the campaign.

Here we go again.
Okay,if you think it might help.
The majority of Australians are sitting on the fence on this vote – you’re delusional if you think this is going to convince them to vote ‘Yes’.
Will they accept NO designs also?
If a house has a mortgage, will the banks pay the reparations or the mortgagee when ‘Yes’ takes its inevitable course?
The devil is in the detail. Could be the reason why it hasn’t been explained.
“SEE KIDS? ACTIVISM IS FUN!”
What’s the logic here, people might not realise they’re having ideology rammed down their throats if it’s colourful enough?
Thinking of making a giant ‘No’ banner out of macaroni and hanging it from my balcony.
Surprisingly quiet on this one.
Wow – you really buy this stuff? Same fear mongering happened after Mabo that land claims would kick people off their properties and out of their houses. Arguably that was more believable. And yet… nothing. The Voice is an advisory group. Parliament makes the calls. Reparations may eventually be ‘voiced’, but it’s Parliament that makes the laws and they’re hardly gonna be kicking people out of their houses. Surely you are smarter than this.
Mabo was and is very different from The Voice.
You’re being disingenuous to claim otherwise.
Parliament can decide on the advice, but, as The Voice will be enshrined in the Constitution, the High Court will also play a role –
as it makes determinations on all disputes relating to the Constitution.
Therefore, it is possible, the High Court might resolve a dispute brought by The Voice, that is different to the the position held by
the Federal Govt., of the day.
The Voice Referendum Question:
“In recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia:
1. there shall be a body, to be called the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice;
2. the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice may make representations to the Parliament and the Executive Government of the Commonwealth on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples;
3. the Parliament shall, subject to this Constitution, have power to make laws with respect to matters relating to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice, including its composition, functions, powers and procedures.” ”
It is about LISTENING. It does not propose or make laws so how can it end up in the High Court?
(It can’t).
The Voice will not change anyone’s life except communities who might now be heard. Voting No is a vote for the status quo.
Please can we just listen?
If The Voice and the Federal Govt disagree on an issue – like what matters can and can’t The Voice provide
advice on – and a resolution can’t be found, then the High Court can and could be asked to decide whether
the matter falls within The Voice’s remit.
So, it’s not simply about ‘advice, it’s also about what matters can The Voice provide advice on.
The Prime Minister and Voice leaders are on record as saying:
‘The details will be worked out after the referendum’.
I’m at a loss how drawing attention to these facts, and wanting them to be resolved before the referendum,
can be considered ‘scare-mongering’.
Nor am I suggesting The Voice will not act in good faith if it’s successful in the referendum.
Just as I’m sure you don’t commence working for a company before they have put everything in writing to you.
Or would you be happy to begin work if told, ‘We’ll work out the details after you’ve signed on and started?’
It’s up to the Government of the day what they do with The Voice’s recommendations. IE they can choose to do nothing. And any successive Govt can change the parameters. That is exactly the point of it. They have to listen, but Govts of the day will decide what the outcomes of The Voice are.
Of course the details are worked out afterwards. The constitution is the broad framework. The laws are filled in by the lawmakers.
It’s so simple. We have simply been asked to listen.
And fwiw I deal in contracts daily.
This is fake news and has been proven to be fake news multiple times.

The key takeaway in here being that the Voice is subservient to Parliament.
There’s lot’s of fake news supporting the No campaign. I wonder if you’re one of the people making it up?
It’s already happening, and the Voice will empower it even more: https://www.9news.com.au/videos/national/mosman-council-votes-against-supporting-aboriginal-land-claim-on-balmoral-beach/clm7hkzad00030jl518mrr4h0
More feel-good for the inner-city people to help them forget about how they’re on stolen land.
It’s not true that “if the Voice and the Federal Govt disagree on an issue” that it will go to the High Court and there’s not a single reputable judge or constitutional lawyer in the country who thinks it will. The constitutional amendment says the Voice may make representations. There is deliberately no onus on the Parliament or the Executive to listen or act upon those representations. If the Voice and the Govt disagree on an issue, which will happen on almost everything, the Parliament will do whatever it wants, as it should.

In the interests of fairness, the above link from the AFR shows asks the real experts – and even they are split.
Yes people telling other Yes people they are Yes people ain’t going to get it over the line.
All land is stolen land, get your head out of the clouds. Do you think the Spanish feel bad for conquering the Aztec Empire? Do the English expect an apology from the Romans? Hmm, it’s almost as if the actions of the past were a reflection of the time period in which they happened.
The indigenous weren’t exactly peaceful either, being made up over over 500 different factions which were often at war with one another.
What other uncomfortable historical truths should we ignore? The fact that the majority of the transatlantic slave trade was Africans selling other Africans? The Muslims enslaving Christians? Irish immigrants being sold into indentured servitude by the Caribbean’s? No, that doesn’t fit the narrative in 2023 so best leave it alone I guess.
But how else are we meant to brag about it on LinkedIn in between our feminist speaking engagements?
Don’t worry, if the Voice gets up, within two years most of the money will be in the hands of slick law firms and people living in terraces in Carlton or Paddington. Little of it will get through to the impoverished aborigines in the Bush.
Bang on.
Saying ‘Yes’ in different typefaces will not work.
The folks at RE are behind this.
Seeing as they own and run the ‘YES’ agency at Optus, whose big word is ‘YES’, one would have thought they’d get Optus involved.
Optus also said a very big NO to using ‘YES’ during the gay marriage campaign. I was there.
I think Optus ran OOH that supported the Same Sex Marriage referendum.
Wow, what an original idea.
