Acclaimed Kiwi director Jackie van Beek joins Hooves

Hooves has welcomed acclaimed Kiwi comedy director Jackie van Beek to its roster.

Van Beek’s partnership with Hooves adds a heavyweight and unique comedy voice to Australian agency shortlists.

Celebrated as one of New Zealand’s foremost comedic talents, van Beek is widely recognized for her work as a director, writer and actor as well as for her close collaborations with Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement on their TV shows What We Do in the Shadows and Wellington Paranormal.

Says John Pace, EP, Hooves: “Jackie is a serious new voice in the Australian commercial scene. We’re careful at Hooves to craft a roster of directors who are not only singularly funny, but who also come from a strong writing and/or performance background. In that regard, Jackie is a triple threat.”

Most recently van Beek served as writer and director on the Australian version of The Office. She collaborated with Australian writer Julie De Fina to develop the series, which is notable as the 16th adaptation of the show and the first with a female lead.

Says Pace: “While Jackie is newish to directing commercials, the work that she has done for Sky Go and Tourism New Zealand is as good as it gets and I can’t wait to start making funny things together here in Australia.”
