13CO has signed director Lizzy Bailey for representation in Australia.
Bailey’s work is best described as narrative fiction. She creates work that is honest, warm, engaging and at times funny.
Described as a ‘curious creative at heart’ New Zealand born Bailey’s love for filmmaking began at a young age when she nominated herself the family documentarian, filming everything with the family’s Hi-8 video camera, from family holidays to her own short films. Bailey then studied Film at Canterbury University in NZ, before moving to Melbourne to attend VCA.
Bailey has directed commercials for brands such as Citibank, SPC, Origin, Solo, NAB, Barbie, Kellogg’s and Bonds. She won Best Female Director “Frothing Female Award” at Freshflix Festival and was a finalist for best comedy at Setting Sun Festival.
Says Charity Downing, founder and executive producer of 13CO: “Lizzy’s work is authentic, rich and unique. She has a distinctive bold aesthetic style, but at the same time is extremely versatile in tackling different genres. She is not afraid to challenge and to put herself out there.”
Says Bailey: “I’m in love with all things film and tv – the cinematography, working with actors, finding the right music. Every element is so important and part of the fun. I particularly love digging for what makes characters human; the uniqueness that makes them interesting, different yet completely relatable at the same time. This is how I move and engage audiences – whether it’s with laughter or tears. Film is such a powerful tool for talking to audiences and I’m interested in harnessing this power to tell untold stories and bring more diverse perspectives to the screen.”
Working as a director’s assistant Bailey honed her skills as a director collaborating with some of Australia’s top directors. She began directing short films learning that her inimitable observations of people are demonstrated in the way she directs her talent, develops her characters and communicates a story.
