The City of Sydney seeks big art ideas for Sydney spaces – part of year-round creative arts program
Local and international artists are invited to submit their big ideas as part of the City of Sydney’s year-round creative arts program that hosts artworks in public spaces across the city.
The City is seeking expressions of interest for both large-scale installations and mural artworks for its 2018/19 Art & About Sydney program, intended to surprise people as they explore the city and encouraging both visitors and locals to see the city in a new light.
Artists of all genres can send expressions of interest for this year’s program until 13 March, with selected projects showing from July 2018.
Says Lord Mayor Clover Moore: “Sydney is a vibrant city with a thriving cultural scene and Art & About Sydney is about bringing art into the public realm so that the work of talented local artists, as well as artists from overseas, can be enjoyed by both Sydneysiders and visitors.
“We’re looking for major artworks that will temporarily transform public, and unusual, spaces in our city – capturing the imagination of people who pass by and inspiring people as they go about their daily lives.”
“We encourage artists from across the globe to submit their boldest ideas of what they can bring to Sydney.”
The invitation is open to visual artists, curators, collectives, producers, architects, designers and anyone with a big creative idea. Proposals should demonstrate artistic excellence and innovation, be accessible and have appeal for a broad audience.
The City will offer financial support of up to $85,000 to assist with project costs.
Artists can visit artandabout.com.au for a copy of the brief and submission guidelines and more details on current and past projects.
The City plans to run a second expression of interest later in 2018 that will focus on other art forms in public and unusual spaces.
