In 2012, Droga5 launched DE-DE, a standalone product development studio that blends the best of software (engineering, design, data) and the best of storytelling (narrative, branding, distribution) to build expertly crafted platforms and businesses. DE-DE’s first product, Thunderclap, won an inaugural Innovation Lion at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and was deemed “the future of social empowerment” by Forbes.

I have said it for the past 15 or so years. Ain’t nobody in Advertising anywhere had a better career or played it better than Droga. Seriously. Fuck me, he is always two moves ahead and now he is worth a couple of hundred million bucks. Amazing. I got over my jealousy of him two of his jobs ago. This guy has basically been the man since his was still a boy at fucking AWARD School. Sydney, asia London, global CD and then builds one of the best agencies in the world in how many years. I am so proud that one of ours and someone so talented does so unbelievable. and the shocking thing is I’m not shocked. He even managed to coin it without selling to a crappy holding company. A pure creative guy making a fortune. Not a banker or a hack but someone who is just plain creative. But best of all he is meant to be a seriously good guy. Inspirational. Again, again, again, again and again. That’s my love letter but he makes us all proud.
Testament to the power and value of ideas that break the boundaries of our industry. A poke in the eye to the doubters.
Is it true Dave owned 85% of the equity?
So true “wow”
That announcement should be the Call for entries for Award School for the next 50 years. Well done Droga. Nobby, Sudeep and co.
Ka Ching.
Well said!
So, did Publicis’ involvement with Drog5 end years ago (post Honey Shed)?
I’m not being facetious – just interested.
That’s surely the most ever paid for an independent agency? He’s a very, very astute businessman.
Our industry is littered with Aussies has-beens and never-beens who loved to say:’ I gave Droga his first break,’ or ‘I once hired Droga’ as if such borrowed glory would rub off like some mythical creative pixie dust.
That was then.
This is now.
And once again, the 5th son of family Droga from Down Under has blazed yet another new trail.
And no one but he and his current crew did it on their own.
Good on ya.
If they do it right, this could be huge.
And let’s not forget that the $220+mill is for only 49% of it.
Beats designing the cover of the AWARD Annual.
Now the hard work starts.
Unfortunately when u have investors they want a return.
Well sold.
I do believe this is the best possible story for anyone who cares about ths industry.
Local kid.
Creative guy
Hard worker
Resists the easy route
Goes it alone
Produces amazing work.
Sells for a ridiculous fortune.
We need more of these stories to remind us that the good guys can win.
I’t’s a suitably innovative partnership for a continually innovative company. I’m sure there are any number of agency group CFO’s scratching their heads at the valuation, but well done D5 and good luck.
This makes every other thread on this blog seem like kids playing in a sandpit.
I’d best get back to my bucket and spade now.
