Jay Furby departs JayGrey to pursue film venture; Sydney agency set to rebrand as Grey
Grey group Australia has announced changes for its Sydney operations with creative director and owner of JayGrey parting company with the agency to focus on his new film ventures.
Over the last year Grey Group Australia has been undertaking a systematic change of it national operations. When compared to a few years ago, today’s Grey offering boasts a completely new senior management team and structure, across all three of its Australian offices.
This structural change has delivered a seamless national approach between its offices, efficient back-end systems, smarter sharing of resources and a renewed focus on a national creative offering. And this approach has begun to pay dividends with new business wins across the group and a renewed recognition of Grey’s creative work.
In 2010 Grey set about changing the creative aspirations of its Sydney office and in doing so, established JayGrey by forming a partnership with Furby.
Recently, Furby has had a desire to continue to explore opportunities in the film world and with recent news of his book moving into production; this is the perfect time for this change.
The Sydney office will re-brand shortly to Grey and additional news about Grey’s national structure will be announced in due course.
Says Luke Waldren, Grey national CEP: “It’s an exciting time for Grey. We have had change, but needed change and we thank Jay for his efforts in helping to re-establish the Grey brand in Sydney. As we become a more seamless national brand our teams in each of the three offices are excited about the future and I think that together, we can be stronger – and that’s happening already. I look forward to one Grey and continuing our growth, whilst wishing Jay well in his new film venture.”

Wow, what a surprise.
Jay put them on the map and done a hell of a job for the past 3 years. Hope he will stay in Australia.
Be interesting to watch this dudes career…he certainly goes own way. I hope he does somethin again. Ive enjoyed his stuff and his difference inspired me . Fuck.
Oh dear boring has become boring again. THat is sad.
SO NOT GREY.
Congrats furburoony.
Beer?
MON SHOUT.
Me smells media management through gritted teeth.
Good luck, Jay. I don’t think Grey was the best fit for someone of your abilities and sensibilities (far too beige), but you’re a genuine talent and a genuine bloke to boot. Hope you kill it mate.
Good luck Furbster!
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!
All the best, Jay…
Thanks for giving me an introduction to the industry and giving me a break…
Looking forward to hearing more about the film…

Jay is an amazingly clever bloke , he will always succeed because he isn’t afraid to break the rules and push the boundaries. Like any gifted creative he can be frustratingly unpredictable and it is that quality that makes him so unique. Good luck mate.
Now Grey can go back to being an agency, instead of a vanity exercise.
Good luck Jay, your next adventure sounds cool. Sadly for us, the industry is a little less interesting without you around.
Fuck off, go and make something you gronks.
Congrats Jay! Can’t wait to see it!
I’m sure both Grey and Jay will be better for the change.
Interesting to see how they both go.
Gronk
Australian slang, (noun) A person that is totally lacking in fashion sense, motor skills and/or social skills. Usually a total moron, an extremely unpleasant person or an unwanted guest.
Sometimes: A likeable idiot or Bogan (especially in Queensland)
1. No wonder he can’t get a girlfriend, he is such a gronk!
2. Why would you “steal my car for the weekend,” you gronk!
Who says this blog isn’t educational?
What is Adtoss talking about?
Jay may be the first person to get out of bed with an ad agency to get in bed with Shrek.
And while allot of industry people always thought that Jay and Grey were strange bedfellows, the Furby-Shrek union may just be a match made in heaven.
Oops posted on the wrong page, nothing to see here,
As you were.
Imagine their children.
Furby while a talented chap who was good at doing TV and print hasn’t been able to adapt those skills to the integrated/non-traditional/digital work that gets the headlines, awards and cut through in today’s adland. But he’s a talented character and will no doubt do well in whatever he decides to do.
Okay, so as per history tells us. Every ad guys leaves his career to either write a children’s book or some sort of film. And no one over hears about the project or the person again. done.
Living the dream mate.
Living the dream.
@Every ad dude does this
Really? tell me more old chap…
I agree with ‘every ad dude’. BTW, who’s Bryce?
@everyaddude…if you knew what the background was or bothered to read the info you might discover Furbs has actually had his book bought by the dudes that made Shrek and Narnia and it is going into production…I THINK THATS PRETTY BIG…GAWD stupidity knows no bounds sometimes. Well done I say. Way better than 10/50 frigging cannes.
DEAR @Ted
Having just worked on the last Jaygrey integrated campaign made overseas in the US the words egg on your face will be rather familiar to you rather soon.
So funny.
Congrats Jay
…all power to you.
Jay is a genius and he will go far. I mean really, who in the world has talked WPP into letting a creatives name in front of the Grey brand. Jay did. And he won them a lot of awards. Plenty of cannes lions and the rest. Top bloke and a bloody good friend to have on your side. Go Furbster and I can’t wait to see the film.
Thanks for everything!
If you got big balls big things happen.
Dis man has big nuts….and things seem to happen.
Go you good thing.
Big Balls? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding.
Top bloke.
Talent will always out.
Congrats Furbs.
If you ever want a job call me first. We would love your mind in the building/network.
Or freelance.
