UNICEF and Jimmy Barnes say give mum the measels with an inspired gift this Mother’s Day
Spots are in this Mother’s Day, and Jimmy Barnes is urging Aussies to share them with their mums in a new seasonal campaign by UNICEF Australia.
As the UNICEF ambassador for immunisation, Jimmy Barnes said giving mum measles for Mother’s Day was a fever-hot gift-giving trend.
Says Barnes: “Children around the world are dying from preventable causes, like measles. It’s the 21st century and it costs less than 30c to vaccinate a child against measles. There is no excuse not to.”
Buying a UNICEF Inspired Gift to give your mum measles on Mother’s Day is not only an easy and convenient gift to give, but one that delivers a big impact. The UNICEF Mother’s Day immunisation pack costs $54, and your mum will receive a card (left) in her letterbox notifying her that 200 measles vaccines will be distributed across the world, on her behalf, to reach children most at threat of being infected.
Says Tim O’Connor, UNICEF Australia director of communications and advocacy: “UNICEF chose a light hearted approach to a very heavy subject precisely because giving the gift of vaccination to some of the world’s poorest children is truly something that should lift people’s hearts.”
Says Dan Geaves, creative strategy director of Marlin Communications: “The successful use of humour is rare within the charity sector, but we saw the possibility to do just that. We worked with UNICEF to develop creative to suggest that buying an Inspired Gift doesn’t have to be pious. Rather it can be a fun way to acknowledge the special bond between a mother and child.”
The campaign is being supported by online display, paid search, email marketing and donated space from publications including mX, AFL Record and News Ltd.
