Leo Burnett launches ‘New York Writes Itself’ – creativity fueled by the real people of New York
New York Writes Itself – an initiative of Leo Burnett New York – is an ongoing series of creative productions fueled by the real people of New York. What people see and hear in the city is recorded as a ‘script’, which forms the inspiration for music, creative writing, art exhibitions and more.
The idea was conceived by star Aussie expat team Michael Canning and Kieran Antill – ex Leo Burnett, Sydney – under ECD Jay Benjamin, the American-born former co ECD of Leo Burnett Sydney.
So what is the relationship between Leo Burnett and the New York Writes Itself? Leo Burnett is the curator of NYWI, and provides vision and funding for the program; It is not funded by any of the company’s clients or by any other brands.
As a creative company, Leo Burnett’s goal is to create ideas that people can really value and use as part of their everyday lives. In this way, NYWI is about creating a platform through which people can connect and create amazing works of creativity inspired by, and celebrating, the people of New York.

’cause that’s what this really is.
Saw this in Cannes, must’ve been a sneak preview.
lenard dorfman is awesome – he’s the director, not the chairman. he has an amazing way of casting and shooting new york city.
well done.
Richard Branson is looking a bit rough these days.
What a crock. You have to fight agencies to get a HINT of reality in a spot these days. They LUUURV the idea of reality but can’t get past their need to control and predict.
The idea that reality can capture something better than you can ever write is completely alien. So nice spot, nice idea, but back to reality. enjoy the festival.
10:28 – I think you missed the point. The inspiration comes from real people. The productions will be done by creative people. Keep watching. It’s going to be good.
Pointless drivel.
Here’s an idea.
Why don’t people start spending their time [and money] trying to make their clients famous?
