Trust British Paints? Sure can. Rolf Harris updates classic Lighthouse spot from the 80s
After 30 years, Rolf Harris, one of Australia’s favourite painters, musicians and TV personalities, is back once again to partner with Australian paint brand British Paints.
Rolf will appear in a new TVC by Leo Burnett Melbourne that builds on the heritage of the brand and reminds us of how 4 SEASONS paint is still protecting Australian homes from all weather conditions. The new commercial will air early in 2011 – the first time British Paints and Rolf Harris have been re-united on our screens since the 80s.
British Paints is delighted to have Rolf back to promote their 4 SEASONS exterior paint and Rolf is just as thrilled to offer his support.
Harris speaks fondly of his involvement in the production of the 1975 ‘Lighthouse’ commercial and is now reenergised for the next instalment.
“British Paints is clearly very close to my heart, and I’ve been so honoured to have had the opportunity to be associated with such a great brand for so long. It feels like yesterday when I was leaning out of the lighthouse, singing through halls and climbing up ladders to inspire that generation of painters into decorating. Now I’m back supporting the brand I love”, he said.
While the old 4 Seasons ‘Lighthouse’ commercial was filmed many years ago, it’s still one of Rolf favourites – “a timeless commercial still relevant through a life cycle that spans generations”, reminisces Harris.
Although he won’t be dusting off the ‘wobble board’ he will bring back the famous ‘trust British Paints, sure can’ drum roll for the new TV commercial.

Nice to see the old guy’s still got it.
Who wants to put their hands up for this one?
i thought they were going to take us back to the lighthouse in the original ad and show us how well the paint had held up?
How we forget, Rolf was still with us in the 90’s

Sorry, but that PR is sickly sweet drivel. “Reunited”? Puhleease.
Why?
Rolf has gone back to England…so should British Paints. Support only local Aussie paint companies…
It’s Colonel Sanders
Exactly my thought, 5:36, and thinking “now THAT’S a good idea” I didn’t bother to look at the spot. Take note, creatives on this one.
Does anyone one know the name of the lighthouse in the original add
Hey just trying to find a copy of a Ralph Harris British Paints commercial in the mid to late 70’s with a young blonde girl sitting on a bench in a kitchen….
I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL OLD 45RPH SINGLES OF SOME RADIO COMMERCIALS THAT AIRED WAY BACK THEN IN THE EARLY 70 S….I WAS A YOUNG FELLOW IN THE INDUSTRY THEN,I AM NOW AN OLD FELLOW IN THE INDUSTRY,BUT STILL ENJOYING IT .
Why bother to use Rolf Harris? Most Australians under 35 would not have a clue who he is because he has lived in the UK longer than he ever lived here. Leave him in the country he loves – England!
If you are under 35 and you haven’t heard of Rolf Harris then there is something wrong.
