Mojo Melbourne CD Franklin Tipton to return home to US in February – for family reasons
CB Exclusive – Franklin Tipton, the executive creative director at Mojo Melbourne – who has only been a year in the role – has resigned – and says he will depart Australia to return to the U.S. with his wife and two young children, in February.
“For family reasons, I need to return to the U.S.,” he said simply.
The loss of Tipton comes only a few months after Rebecca Carrasco departed the ECD gig at Mojo’s Auckland office back in August – also for personal reasons – after only a few months in the role. Her replacement is expected to be announced soon.
Tipton, formerly of Crispin, Porter + Bogusky and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, joined Mojo in November last year.
During his time in Melbourne Tipton says he has built strong relationships with clients and colleagues, and does not rule out returning to Australia in the future. Says Tipton: “It’s been a superb adventure and I’ve met so many amazing people around Oz. Mojo is a fantastic company to work for and we accomplished a lot this year – completing some great integrated ideas and producing work that the team can be very proud of.
“I especially loved working with Micah and Lachie, and the company is much stronger regionally under Craig (Davis),” he said.
Craig Davis (left), co-chairman and regional CCO Mojo, said that he was disappointed to lose a creative leader of Tipton’s brilliant pedigree: “Family comes first, and I respect both Franklin’s decision, and the contribution he has made to Mojo during his time with us. It’s been wonderful to have him on board, and we wish him only the best for the future.”

No surprises there.
Another CD disaster?
Yeah, family reasons. We get it.
Who hired him?
Had the pleasure of working with him.
I don’t expect to work with anyone as talented in Australia any time soon.
I would wish him luck, but he doesn’t need it.
Yeah 7:28?
What was it you worked with him on?
Ah yes, the fiendishly simple yet clever Regional Strengthening Program. Lose two thirds of your Melbourne office, one third of your Sydney office and leave your NZ outfit without a CD for six months.
Yes, another CD leaves Mojo. I’ll bet he was promised the earth and received nothing but empty promises. Best decision you’ve ever made Franklin. Good luck mate. How Mojo manages to attract good people and then f@ck them over is beyond me. Most people left in the creative dept are freelance.
Had the pleasure of working with Franklin and he’s a talented, inspiring and enthusiastic leader. Australia’s loss.
Maybe, before they go searching for the next headline hire ‘Executive’ Creative Director, Mojo Melbourne should look at the size and the state of itself.
What they need is a solid, useful Creative Director who understands the business at a local level.
Look internally, find the most competent person, and promote them.
Not the Mojo way though is it?
About a year and a half ago, perhaps as part of the Regional Strengthening Programme, Mojo Melbourne allowed their ECD to leave and take the CD, deputy CD and head of Tv with him.
No company in the history of companies would allow that kind of cherrypicking to happen. No company, of course, except for Mojo.
Then about three months ago, perhaps as part of the Regional Strengthening Programme, the head of Publicis Digital left to start his own competing company backed by a rival multinational, taking two key staff with him.
Not only did Mojo fail to march them out the door immediately but asked them to stay on a bit and not tell anyone so they could finish a couple of projects.
I’ve only ever heard good things about Franklin….except from those who contrived to make his time here unsuccesful…..
Let’s face it, a world without two ad agencies isn’t such a bad thing.
Like a storm has hit and the ropes are broke… just adrift in a sea of the proverbial
or maybe more like a dead calm…
the choice of new CD’s is your’s!

The guy cancels MADC judging on the day, then comes to the drinks with a gatecrasher. All class.
Mojo’s problem (pick an office) has always been the folks NOT in the creative department. Still is. Pick any person that’s been there more than 10 years, and you’ll find one of the reasons they’re not a better agency. It’s a shame…there are some very talented people there / who have been there.
Advertising – I told you this was going to end in Tears®
rant, rant, blah, blah. Get on with your work…
Right – that’s it. All of you – Get back to facebook!
Broom in hand, and I’m headed to Southbank
The Bond Store HQ, at 30 Windmill Street, is currently for sale. Saw it advertised in the AFR a couple weeks ago.

Mmyeah Publicis Mojo Melb. used to be good about 3 or 4 years ago.
How come it says 32 comments but there are only 24?
Wow you guys removed some amazingly bitchy gossip and insider chat. Who knows if it was true but it was entertaining and I’m sorry to see it go! Seems little point in saying this now but even if there are internal problems, the people at Publicis Mojo in Melbourne are still doing good work for us and I respect those that I have dealings with.
Ha, ‘Anonymous client’ good try K
Well spotted,12:32!
no really – I am (10:41). I’m not interested in having a public profile though. And I want the bitchy stuff back!
