Smyth replaces Pounartzis as CD on Telstra

Campaign Brief can reveal that Russell Smyth, a former CD at The Campaign Palace, Sydney, has been hired by Ogilvy Sydney to take on what appears to be the highly demanding creative director gig on Telstra, after the departure of Yanni Pounartzis, who lasted only seven months in the role after joining in September last year.
While at The Palace, where he was CD since 2005 until late 2008, the highly talented Smyth also co-created the sitcom Chandon Pictures, which has aired in Australia and sold to a major US network.

Well done Rusty, you’re a fucking legend.
Good luck Russell. If anyone can do it you can. A sense of humour is half the battle.
Good luck you’re going to need it with that client.
Go Russ Go
Is there some suggestion that the client is difficult?
You sly dog, drinks on you Rusty! Cheers JL.
Just what Telstra needs.
A communicator.
Congratulations Rusty.
Well done Russell, you will do a great job for Ogilvy and Telstra.

Great news Rusty. We must crack a bottle of Chandon soon x
Good going. Maybe he’ll help them get rid of that silly “segment” nonsense they’re always using.
Well done Rusty. Grunter would be proud of you.
A real legend, we’ll miss you here at the Towers.
New talent for Telstra, new MD who’s a star planner, big digital hires… wtf is going on at Ogilvy..?
I guess that means no more meetings at my place. Congrats Russ, NR.
Great News Rusty!
Oh and welcome to St Leonards. It is an armpit of a place.
