Wunan Media and AT Creative team up with KCLS and MWRC to launch ‘US is Better Without Abuse’ campaign in the Kimberley
Wunan Media and Perth-based AT Creative have partnered with Kimberley Community Legal Services (KCLS) and Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre (MWRC) to launch the powerful ‘US is Better Without Abuse’ campaign. This bold initiative unites two organisations deeply rooted in the Kimberley community to tackle one of the region’s most pressing issues: abuse in all its forms.
“The US campaign is about shifting the narrative from one of despair to one of strength and recognising the vital role the community plays in making this change happen,” said WKCLS CEO Christine Robinson. “It’s a message of hope, unity, and action—together, we can be the change we need.”
Emily Carter AM, CEO of Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre, emphasised the importance of a collective approach: “Violence in any form has no place in our communities. This campaign is not just about raising awareness—it’s about creating a cultural shift where respect, care, and safety are our shared priorities. Together, US can make a difference.”
At its core, the US campaign emphasises that abuse affects all of us, and only together can the Kimberley community overcome the challenges posed by it. The initiative calls attention to the pervasive impact of emotional, physical, and Elder abuse—issues that are destroying lives, breaking families, and tearing communities apart.
“This is not about singling out any one specific group within the community, because abuse doesn’t discriminate,” said Creative Director and Writer Andrew Tinning. “The campaign is based on a simple insight: at the heart of ABUSE is US—US women, US men, US kids, US Elders. And only US can make it stop.”
“We’ve deliberately avoided scare tactics and re-enacting abusive behaviour. There’s no need for that, because across the Kimberley, people live and breathe abuse every day and don’t need reminders of how it looks or sounds. Instead, we’ve focused on how much better life would be without abuse—delivering a message of hope and the possibility of a brighter future,” continued Tinning.
Shot over the course of a week, a lean crew of five travelled to Broome, Kununurra, and Fitzroy Crossing to interview, film, and photograph a diverse cross-section of Kimberley locals, capturing genuine reactions and authentic stories.
“The campaign’s goal is clear: to inspire and empower individuals, families, and communities across the Kimberley to unite against abuse,” added Wunan Foundation Director and Wunan Media Producer Troy Zafer. “By raising awareness, driving conversations, and offering vital resources, the initiative seeks to create a brighter, stronger, and safer future for all.”
As part of the campaign, KCLS and MWRC have developed tools and resources to support individuals and families affected by abuse. These resources aim to educate, inspire, and provide practical help for those on their journey toward safety and healing. The organisations remain steadfast in their commitment to aiding anyone in need.
‘US is Better Without Abuse’ is more than just a campaign—it’s a movement. It gives voice to those affected by abuse and empowers everyone in the Kimberley to take a stand. By uniting as a community, Kimberley residents can drive the change needed to end abuse and foster a stronger, safer, and more united region.
The campaign has launched across multiple channels, including TV, radio, press, posters, outdoor, and social media. More information about the ‘US is Better Without Abuse’ campaign is available at uswithoutabuse.com.
