Whybin\TBWA launches Visa Debit card blitz
Visa, via agency Whybin\TBWA Sydney, has launched a major new marketing campaign in Australia with the tagline, “More people go with Visa Debit”, aimed at promoting the benefits of Visa Debit cards for online, telephone and international transactions.
Chris Clark, Visa’s General Manager for Australia and New Zealand, said the campaign reflected the increasing popularity of Visa Debit cards in the challenging economic climate, as consumers focused on better ways to manage their money.

Well done to all involved. Good Idea, well shot and crafted. Congrats.
This spot is longer than the one i saw last night, that said, nice spot, nicely directed. Anyone know who the music is by?
Beats the hell out of Jackie Chan.
For some reason it leaves me a little cold. Maybe its the lack of performance or something…lack of reactions to the experience they’re having thats missing. Could’ve been quite clever and quite funny, but its not really working for me.
Looks good though – but that’s a given these days.
cute spot, well done guys. Where is that track from?
From your old mate in London. World Class.
Goooooooood!
Kind of says and shows the same thing.
Could we have done without the voice over [?] …At least until the end [?].
Try watching it twice.
hate to admit it – but this is actually very good.
smart strategy, well executed.
Compliments to the chef, i thoroughly enjoyed it.
best thing I’ve seen for a long time. I assumed it was done in europe, great soundtrack
this good – tough category, tough client
What’s with the Big Ben GO?
hmm, nice controlled roving handheld, shallow depth of field ,tight and on long lens, a focus pull here and there, great natural/available light look with a quirky percussion-y soundtrack and unusual vocals singing bollocks…yeh, this style has become way to formulaic for me and Spiccia is one of the main offenders.
Sure, this spot looks great and is executed very well, but been seeing way to many ads over the past year or so that look like they could have been shot by the same director.
EG. 3G spots, pretty much all the vodafone stuff and telstra out the box commercials etc etc
“It’s your money……………..” Mmmmm, worked the first time for State Bank, why not again? Still the best consumer-focused money line of all time. Isn’t that right Ralph! Nice performances, nice music, nice effort for pretty generic category.
Boring. Same shit, different day. Take a cutesy, relatively unknown indie track, add bland, righteous v/o, token funky talent….and voila! Genius.
Looks nice though.
8.57 you are spot on mate, very well said.
I feel like I’ve seen this a 100 times already and knew exactly what I was gonna get by the first 2 seconds.
In the words of the immortal Morrissey, ‘I was bored before I even began’.
very cool
Very nicely done.
totally totally agree 8.57
Its a style directors are doing with their eyes closed. Time to move on.
Why would you buy just one pint with a debit card?
Nice, generic.
It’s one of those spots that screams; “I always wanted to do a commercial like that.”
And now you have.
Find a new language. It’s heaps harder than following trends and far more rewarding.
great job guys, really enjoyed this spot. Beautifully crafted.
Agree with the fact it would have worked ten times better without the voice over. Just needed at the end. Nice job though.
Oh, what a great ad. Nice idea, beautifully shot. I’d expect nothing less from Michael. Well done all…
like watching a piss take of garth davis, too many shots and the voice over telling me how annoying it would be to take a tv on the train when i see a man take a tv on the train, the music is dull and done and the girl at the end looking at the card with the expression that she has been handed a turd.
This is rubbish
Nice. Not sure if that’s a compliment.
Gotta be happy with that guys. Great stuff.
Nice one,oh and i assumed on the pint front …..i agree,no mates!?
i don’t get bored of looking at things that engage me, this did , so well done….and who said that looking cool was uncool? Daft.
As usual, Whybins discovers the formula way too late to be of any interest to the industry. There’s old school and then there’s just plain out of touch.
I’m with 8:57 and 11:30
I reckon it would have been better if a whole bunch of people in the city stopped everything they were doing and came together as a mob to do the one crazy yet cool thing.
Why are Visa making telco ads – i don’t get it. Crap idea, poor choice of expression and wrong category usage occasion to promote. Bad all round.
I could’ve sworn this was a Telstra ad when I saw it the other night on tv. (Yep, I’d already turned over before the product was revealed)
Don’t listen to them boys ….and you Tammy,it’s a good ad.Remember the Visa stuff Clems used to do ,now that was old school…but then again, many of the babies that write on this blog are too young to even remember those.
(ahem) Hi Sean.
Really enjoyed this. Well done to all. Can’t get that song out of my head.
great work for a difficult category. much better and more relevant than any visa/mastercard work I’ve seen. well done.
Great love it. Very catchy music.
The track was done by Turning Studios
The Visa ad with fish falling out of the sky was a cracker.
Johnny
too funny, the Morrissey reference was pure gold.
paulie
That’s a great follow up to the last Vodafone ad where the guy folds up stuff he likes.
What next, an ad about how having a credit card is as good as having a job? If you don’t think real people’s bullshit radars will go off wildly at this one, you’re kidding yourselves.
it would be fine if Visa debit was really a revolution. We’ve had credit cards, eftpos, debit cards etc for a very long time. the technology and the benefit is old. it’s not like a phone company saying: we have jsut put a TV in your mobile or a computer company saying we just invented the laptop.
and that big ben go thing. that was fucking awful.
congrats guys, think this will do really well. Well done to all involved. Where was it shot?
The ‘Go ‘thing is the global TBWA thing that apparently won them the business….its not what Whybins have come up with……i love the spot though, very cool .
I’ll never say anything negative or derogatory about an ad.
Fantastic weather we’ve had lately…
Its Evolution not Revolution…. Twaaaaaaaat.
Think for a second, is this going to make you get rid of your eftpos?
It’s financial services,it’s a global piece of business,it’s a miracle they got it through….respect.
All you little people who bitch about all the ads that go up on this site are hilarious. Is this the best spot in the world? No. Is is a very good spot in a tough category? Yes. So unless you’re going to put your last ad up here for everyone to comment on (which I doubt will even come close to being as good as this), you should think about why you’re last spot stank. wankers.
Good spot. Nicely done.
Hate the ‘GO’ thing, love the ad……the online work ,smh.com.au….is great too.
really loved it. Especially the bit where the girl has lost herself amongst the phone cables through the trees. Great work.
GREAT AD! (For Telstra.)
Maybe i’m just dumb. Could someone please explain.
The link between more advanced communications that you can use day-to-day, and visa debit being better than eftpos because you can use it to access your money overseas seemed spurious at best.
Is it supposed to be that they’re both a product of modern technology? I’ve used a visa or master debit for well over 10 years.
Just looks looks a telco ad with some plastic slapped on the back. (Though it looks cool in a 2002 d&ad annual kind of way.)
Then again, maybe I’m just too thick to get it.
The important thing is that the footy starts in 9 days time.
Hasn’t Myles come a long way. What a hottie.
GO GoodOil Films. Love it.
well i really like it, it stands out on telly thats for sure.
Really enjoyed this. Well done to all the agency who posted.
Boy you Aussies can be harsh, sitting here in a gloomy, financially stricken London, all i can say is,it’s pretty bloody good. Well done.
This is the best ad I’ve seen in this category for a long time. I bet it works its socks off.
Theres some great work being produced at the moment and this is amongst the best.
There’s some great posts from agencies commenting on their own work at the moment and these are some of the best.
Very cool. Love it.
very very not interesting
Cool ad well done.
Luv it,nice track to boot.
I’ve worked on visa before, well one for getting this one through.
miles & tammy rock!
Saw it just got ‘Pick of the week’ on Bestadsontv. Good choice against some tough opposition.
does someone know how to find this song????????????
you can find it at http://www.myspace.com/myrtlestreetconnection
Anyone who has worked in this area knows how hard it is to get a decent idea up. This looks like it probably hasn’t changed an awful lot since it was presented…..so congrats all round,it deserves the success it ‘ll no doubt garner.
Well done to all involved on this. By far the most interesting ad on TV at the moment.
What is the song i realy wana know
where do i find the replies for the questions posted here?
I would run with it.
